Bidrage med feedbackWe went to London from New York simply to see Fulham play (a birthday present to me! . I asked for recommendation from my Fulham facebook group they touted The Golden Lion. While I appreciated their help, I will STRONGLY advise against anyone hitting this pub. Because we had tickets for one of the hospitality suites at Craven Cottage (smart casual , we weren 't wearing any Fulham gear. The game was 4 pm, but the suite opened at 1:30 so we headed to the pub around noon. Only a few people in the place, rain teeming down, the guy at the door let us in and then we were immediately barked at by an old guy THIS IS A FULHAM BAR (in my wife 's face, no less if we were both younger the day would have turned differently fast and treated quite poorly all around (dirty looks, etc. . This was done in front of the staff no one apologized or made any attempt to stop this idiot (a regular it appeared from acting like an ass. I jokingly handed the bartender my Fulham Membership card, and tried to explain that we were in town for the game she didn 't care, brushed me off mid sentence. Simply rude and not because she was busy. We tried to talk to a couple of the people around us at the back tables, but no response. We left never to return. About as badly as I 've ever been treated in a bar, quite frankly. MUCH better reception at the King 's Arms and Temperance. We hit a total of 9 pubs in 4 days in London and had a great time! Only this place treated us (Fulham fans who spent a ton of money just to see my favorite team play! like dirt.
On match day, this is a Fulham season ticket holder only bar. While the Fulham fans are not the craziest that you will come up against, they are loyal, friendly and enjoy a good pint or two before our beloved Whites take the pitch. And I am no exception! As a FFC season ticket holder, I 've been in here a time or two before the match. Pints are easy to get, relatively on the cheaper side and there is plenty of seating, both inside and out. The Golden Lion has several TV 's on so if there are earlier matches, it tends to show the highlights and updates. Loud roars will be heard here if Chelsea, Man United or Arsenal are playing poorly. Take me home, take me home, To the place that I belong, Craven Cottage, by the river, Take me home, take me home...
It's a nice neighbourhood pub, but can get really overly busy during matches. I went here for a breakfast and it was quite empty at the time apart from regulars who were all super friendly and welcoming. They have games and colouring materials for children as well. Breakfast was good but unremarkable. A typical full English, nicely cooker but nothing to write home about. They do offer unlimited coffee though, so that's a huge plus! Overall a pleasant but unremarkable experience. Would recommend when you're in the area but not worth a trip down if you'd have to travel to get here.
Our daughter lives nearby, we LOVE going to the GL when we visit. They let us in during a Fulham match, we hung out until the ticket holders returned after, it is such a fun lively environment. Everyone is friendly, they love to give the Americans a bit of grief about hot sauce on chips, but we had a fantastic time out in the beer garden. Their food is good, traditional pub food. We love the drunken mushrooms and halloumi fries, and the chips are always really hot, which I appreciate. My daughter her roommate go for the fish chips on their long days of classes. I love that they feel comfortable in a pub of primarily men, which is a refreshing change from their college life in LA. Please don't go here for fancy cocktails. It called the queue at the bar for the rest of us ordering pints. They have plenty of options, including some awesome bottles ciders, just keep it simple. Please. The many regulars thank you in advance. And tell Emma behind the bar we said hiya, miss that girl.
