Bidrage med feedbackHello, I walked the Greater Ridgeway across England during August September. I arrived at the Chequers a bit before opening time. But the lovely landlady made me a cup of tea. After a long walk it was very welcoming. Once they opened at midday I was greeted by extremely friendly staff smiling faces and lots of help with my onward journey. I had bangers and mash for lunch and a pint of cider. I couldn't fault this place at all , it's a lovely old genuine British pub with very friendly staff and very nice hearty food.
Mixed generations of a family met for lunch. The pub was warm and welcoming with a cosy fire. The food was good, typical pub grub. The service was great and we felt very welcomed (including our dog).
Nice pub and location but the food was overpriced and extremely lacking. We both ordered chicken burgers, tiny piece of chicken slapped between a dry disintegrating bun, tiny amount of nondescript salad and bland chips. Packet of mayonnaise was the highlight. Over £20 for a truly disappointing meal, how can you go wrong with burgers?!!! Only two beers available on tap. Only instant coffee available, 2 coffees and a tea came to £7.70!!! A real shame.
Stayed here on our way to East Anglia. This is not a 5 star hotel, but nothing wrong with that and the price was very reasonable. Room was larger than average with a double bed and a single. Perfecty clean and functional. No problem accommodating our dog. Jane even took money off as we were having breakfast elsewhere with a friend. Supper was good pub grub served promptly.
We went there yesterday as 1st time customers, I had a 'beef burger ' what I got was a patty slapped between a bun with no relish, no Lettice, no tomato NOTHING except bread and a poorly cooked thin patty! Perhaps my expectations were higher than what they have on offer, but a single thin patty with a bun is NOT a great burger! I will never eat there again and really recommend that any other patrons do not order a 'beef burger ' to avoid expectations! Rather visit McDonalds
