Matka Gourmet - CASTELNUOVO DEL GARDA

We were greeted at the door by the Manager who took us to our table (restaurant was empty at around 9.00 pm on a Friday night). He gave us information about the restaurant, the Chef and where the food came from. Good menu, and good service. All round a very enjoyable experience.

We loved the fact that this resort had a gourmet resturant, as we are not too fond of buffets. On our arrival at Matka we were greeted by Massimo, who gave us information about the restaurant. He was very welcomming and friendly. Good start. But then..... our server which didn 't even try to smile during our entire meal came to take our order. The wine we wanted was sold out. The maincourse my son 17 and I wanted was sold out. .....even though it was only 8 pm and the restaurant was almost empty . We ended up ordering 2 risottos, 1 seafoodpasta and 3 veal mains. My daughter 12 ordered pasta with butter and parmesan and a side salad from the kids menu. We also chose a bottle of wine and the kids wanted Coke. Our wine arrived.....it was very good. But no coke. After about 10 minutes we asked fro the coke which was brought to us. No appologies from the server. After a bit the primi dishes arrived and they were lovely. We really liked both the risottos and the seafood pasta. Our daughters butter and parmesan pasta though....was just pasta with butter...no cheese....again we had to call on the server.. which wasn 't easy even tought at this time only 2 tables in the resatuarant were occupied and he eventuelly brought a bowl of cheese. Again...no appoligies for the missing cheese....and no smile. When the mains arrived we almost thought it was a joke. Veal milanese.....was 4 small pieces of dry meat and a big pile of potatochips. It looked like someone had tossed the food on the plates and it looked NOTHING like the picture of the dish on TripAdvisor or Instagram. The picture had garnish, sauce and some otherr items on the plate. Our dishes had no garnish, no sauce, no decorations ...nothing. Just 4 pieces of meat and chips. We were shocked. We ended up all sharing out daughters side salad. It was all just so dry! My son had finished his coke and our water was empty...but our server never came over asking if we wanted more drinks. At this time 3 tabes were occupied...... We were gonna have dessert but desided we 'd had enough. 15 minutes trying to get the attention of our server but getting eye contact with him was almost impossible. None came to our table. He didn 't even look in our direction once. It was like as if wee were invisible. Eventually we gave up and reached out to Massimo again asking for the check. Getting the check was obviously not his job so we saw him telling the server....and then we waited again...... We were very disappointed at our visit to Matka. It was really nice to see that the hotel had an offer besides the normally loud, messy buffets which are great for familys with little kids but Matka needs to try harder. Both on the food and especially the servers.

Beautiful food, friendly staff and serene atmosphere. Matka experience is one that cannot be faulted.

Il servizio cameri molto bravi soprattutto Giacomo abbiamo festeggiato il 25 anniversario di matrimonio tutto perfetto
