Da Teresa - CASERTA

Delicious lunch. Open early at 12:30. Beautiful view. Easy to find, just was you walk up the hill into the old town. Will come again!

I’m a bit surprised about those other reviews! I’ve eaten here over the years repeatedly and got good food and friendly service every time. This is a truly big place living of Italians that come up here from ugly Caserta to enjoy views the medieval borgo and traditional food. This time we came on a Sunday and although we only wanted a one plate lunch we got good front row seats, friendly smiles and excellent service before the place filled up with locals after one o’clock. We had a generous portion of scamorza alla griglia with prosciutto – more a meal than a starter; gnocchi in a rich creamy sauce with lots of cheese in it, pasta ala mama and even the plate with fried potatoes and vegetables was great. We did not eat enough to rate the food higher – but what we got was best in its class! The house wine came in a bottle (we gave up on carafes long time ago) and was good IGT quality. I think this is a place by Italians for Italians but we felt welcome and well served.

In Caserta, it is almost impossible to get bad food. It is an undiscovered gem that really prides itself on food amongst the Palazzo Reale. The service at Ristorante Da Teresa was acceptable and the waiter was almost robotic. Not a major issue when you consider other factors. The food was not acceptable. The pizza was boring and not tasty. I've had plenty of pizza in Casertavecchia and I didn't think it was possible to get bad pizza. We also had a pasta dish that was not very nice. Certainly not something I'd expect from a restaurant in such a prime location and with so much competition around. The views however, are amazing! The location is perfectly atop the mountain and overlooks Caserta and Mt Vesuvius. Lit up at night it is a truly spectacular view in summer. I will return to Casertavecchia many times, but I will never eat at Ristorante Da Teresa again.

Food of excellent quality and abundant (the cutting board for two is among the appetizers but fills as a full meal,) high prices but justified by the place, quality and above all by quantity. simple but very panoramic service, slightly distracted but fast
