Bidrage med feedbackAfter a relaxing lunch at Crazy Panda, Meatballs And Beef Cheeks and I make a bee-line for Banneton Bakery. The floor space is small but every inch of this beautifully designed Bakery is put to good use. After chatting to the ladies we walk out with a Pain Au Chocolate, Choc Almond Croissant and Apple Galette. I warm the pastries in the oven for supper. They certainly taste better warm. The Apple Galette with a scoop of ice cream is yummy. But the crunchy Choc Almond Croissant served with a hot Chinese tea wins the day. I am impressed by this relatively new Bakery. The spotless floors, polished glass cabinets, the beautifully presented products for sale and the efficient helpful ladies behind the counter. Well done Banneton Bakery!
Popped into Banneton for a treat following lunch with Joe K at Crazy Panda Dumpling Bar. I like the layout of this shop and the open-air feel more than I do the Woolloongabba location. The staff were also very friendly and welcoming. Grabbed a Pain Au Chocolate, which I brought home to share with Lady Meatball and Mini Meatball. This was above average and rated a 3.5. I also wanted to pick up some bread, but their selection was extremely depleted by 1:30 on a Friday.
Had brekky here today, nice little cafe in the new part of the centre. Bagel with smoked salmon was delicious! Tart au citron was also very yummy. Tried a rye sourdough which was very dark and packed with seeds. One of the best breads I've ever eaten!! Will definitely be going back.
Well-renowned around town, Banneton Bakery was has grown from being a market stall selling fresh bread to having brick-and-mortar establishments situated around town. This has now gotten it a trio of them, being in Ashgrove, Woolloongabba, and - as of writing this review - the most recent one in Camp Hill. Overtime it is becoming something of its own, and the popularity in all parts speaks for itself. In spite of its name, these are transforming into some of the most trusted cafes on the corner. Since the day beforehand other plans on my part meant a tighter schedule, what that meant was that the usual weekend errands were not able to be completed - that is, grocery shopping. That always means finding a new place to have coffee, and boy did my house mate/dining buddy have a place in mind. In fact, I kind of knew which one it was going to be (subtlety is not his forte... but I am not one to talk either). So before getting to the needed task, it was off to the beloved task - coffee and cake. Ever since he had heard about how good Banneton Bakery was in Woolloongabba, he has wanted to go. That was combined with many of the upcoming plans around Samuel Village, with the extensions and more dining options to come in the near future. One of these options was an extension of the original, with Banneton Bakery being right down the road and easy access. So without surprise, it was this place to tick off the list. Banneton Bakery is only one of a few places in this extension, which is more or less a big courtyard with several tables strewn about the place. I can't vouch for the other places - one, because with a couple of them I have not been near, and two, while I have bypassed the major one several times, it is not sufficient to give a description about its look or interior - however, what is likely is that this definitely going to be the smallest of them all. The outlay is simple, with one door going in and seeing all the sweets that are there, then going along to the counter at the end, and the larger adjacent door exiting to the courtyard seating. As well as all of the tables in the courtyard, a few at the window booth are also available. Now this is how service should be. It is scaled back in what should be delivered, especially considering that it is a simple bakery, but nonetheless all of it was done very efficiently. Getting to the counter, there wasn't enough tOnime to pull out your phone before someone notices you are there and is already awaiting the order. With no dilly-dallying, everything is done quickly and effectively, and before long the drinks and pastries are at your table ready to be consumed. Whether you associated bakeries with the sweet pastries, or with hot pies, you are more or less going to be appeased at Banneton. In looking into the cabinet, there is quite the variety. To really do it justice, what is needed is to see it in person but as an example for what they have, choices include croissants (including chocolate and almond), heaps of slices, hot cross buns, meat pies, sweet pies, pretzels, doughnuts and freshly baked bread among others. What makes it even better is that they do drinks as well here, a combination of hot and cold. Does a coffee sound good with your slice? Well all the usual favourites are right here, even available in iced form. That alone makes it a treat unto itself. One other distinct reason that he had chosen this place was that it had a coffee blend that my dining buddy had become quite fond of. That was The Establishment, and this is certainly one of the stronger blends of coffee that is available around town. Previous ventures with it has made him enjoy it, and start looking out for places that have its logo out front. That is saying something. Nevertheless, as it was expected the coffees were really good with a well textured cappuccino from the taste that I had, and the doppio was everything it needed to be. The extraction was good, it was at a good drinking temperature, the flavours were apparent and it was smooth. That is about it with the coffee, good enough for me. It was around midday, and I hadn't really had much since breakfast so I was definitely weaseling in some grub. If it were not already apparent, this is like being a kid in a candy store. Just which delicious morsel takes the most fancy is the ultimatum. After a sqizz around the place, what I ended up with was a beef and burgandy pie. From eating this I had realised that it had been quite some time since I had had a pie, not that there was anything conscious about that. Anyway, this was a great pie that was apparent just be looking at it - that was puff pastry that gleamed in the light with the brushed on oil. Inside was actual meat, and good quality slow cooked meat at that (so many pies with gristle in them over the years, so, so many). The flavour was really good, the chutney on the side added some fruity flavour and it was just really good. Most of the same can be said for what my dining buddy ordered - a pork and fennel roll. This was a better quality version of a sausage roll that was equally familiar to the bakery as a meat pie for all these years. Not as good as the pie, but the meat was still solid, it was hot and the pastry was flaky and buttery. Since it was at such a good level of quality, what I knew was that this review was going to be wasted if I did not at least try a sweet from here to confirm how good it was. Going back to the counter for a second round, that was time for another coffee and a choice of sweet. Asking my dining buddy what he would go for, he was not finicky - after a small look at what was on offer, the best one seemed to be a chocolate cherry slice. Thick, sweet and delicious is about what sums it all up - the chocolate was rich, there were bits of cherry in the mixture, this definitely needed to be with another coffee to cut through all that sweetness. The coffee worked out well the second time around. Finishing off here, it was two-for-two. This is what a bakery needs to aspire to be, with the old pie shop dying off a slow death if it were not already apparent. Each item is made with love, and before long the word is going to spread about here if already has not. Out of the competition nearby, this is my dining buddy's favourite coffee nook and it is easily apparent why. How the 4.0 rating works this time around is that it is at the highest possible level of quality it can possibly be. There is next to no improvements that are necessary, and the whole ordering system and friendly nature of the place make it a lot more palatable. When it comes to the crunch though, this is still a bakery that sells simple items. At that level, there won't be any paradigm changes or life altering experiences that have to be had; you are simply getting something that is standard at a more acceptable level of quality. TL;DR: Now this is how you make a bakery. The old style ones have had their day, and these will be taking their place. Everything here is done at a high standard of quality, and freshly made plus the service is efficient. It was good enough for Woolloongabba, it was good enough for Ashgrove, and now it ought to prove that it is good enough for Camp Hill.
