We stopped in here after it was recommended to us at the Clinton Visitor Center. The restaurant is in a charming building off of an original brick street in the downtown area. They still offer a blue plate special at lunchtime! We ordered that as well as the pimento cheese BLT, the chicken bacon ranch sandwich, and the burger. All of our food was delicious and the sweet tea was some of the better I've had. It was not exactly inexpensive for lunch but worth it for the food as well as the relaxing and unique atmosphere. While we were there, a table of locals were celebrating a birthday. Whenever you find yourself at a place the locals actually eat at, you know you've chosen well!
This was not a “fine dining” restaurant—condiments served in plastic cups. We enjoyed the blackened and the grilled shrimp , both served with green beans. Everything was nicely seasoned in what did seem to be a peppery, distinctly southern style. Onion rings were doughy in places, not quite cooked enough. Grits served cold. Service was slow flawed but server was young, endearing and new. The bourbon pecan pie was terrific—tender homemade crust. No tea of any kind.
Only 2 patrons when we walked in during dinner hour should have been a dead giveaway. We chose this restaurant because of its great rating and reviews. We were mislead. Since it was Taco Tuesday I had the tacos. They were not bad but nothing to write home about. The reason for this review was what my wife had. She ordered blackened shrimp with asparagus. The shrimp smelled and tasted like it been covered with lighter fluid and the asparagus was too tough to cut. My wife brought this to the attention of our waitress but she did not offer to take her dinner off of our bill as she could not eat it. I do not see where this restaurant got such good ratings, but it is not a place that I would recommend or ever return to.
I'm a foodie and I traveled 48 miles to eat there and it was not worth the trip. I don't believe the red fish was really red fish I asked for blackened not what I got . The drink menu was brought to me on a wait staff order ticket and I had to give it back I guess that was the only one. But everything on the plate was over cooked it was terrible . Drive a few miles don't stop go somewhere else. Below was my $104.00 meal for 2 that neither one of us could finish
