The wine was exceptional...... but after waiting well over an hour for someone to take our order, we had to ask! Our reservation was for 1.00pm we got our food At 2.55. Food was sparse, it was a matching plate.. last time it was an abundance of food with your dessert included... No dessert not much food on the board... $39 for the food which does not include your wine that It is matched to. We then asked for a cheese board but it was after 3 and the chef went home, so no go! Lovely place and atmosphere, just pricey for what you get. Won't be back.
Visited for lunch & were very impressed. The tasting plates were fabulous accompanied by beautiful wine. The service was excellent. Would like to go back again before our travels take us further afield. Well done, Capel Vale.
I've been dying to visit Capel vale and there's many reasons why. As soon as you get out of your car there's the breath taking views of the vineyard. So beautiful, picturesque and captivating. You walk up a wooden ramp under a pretty archway leading to the wine tasting. The vineyard is on your left and a little pond with a fountain is on your right. As you open the door you're greeted by Anja , the German hostess who is most happy to help . Straight down to business she takes you through the menu. Giving you little pieces of info on each wine not to overwhelm you! Wonderfully done . Great customer care. Pinot noir , unusual and delicious , but the cab sav (non black label) is delish . My partner had a glass of Shiraz , abit to robust and peppery for me , merlot, Pinot noir and Malbec are all top notch choices. An usually light reisling, easy drinking and soft. I don't recommend the semillon ( because I do not like any semillon) but I do advise you to try the Chardonnay it's modern and fruity . Lovely! Sat down beside the fire and enjoyed the non rushed atmosphere a perfect way to end our trip .Thank you, We will return.
On the way down to Margaret River region we stopped and had lunch here. Tapas servings were superb and wine selection was great. The view, restaurant setting and view of the vineyards was very nice and complemented an overall nice ambience. If you are sightseeing the region or just passing through ... seriously, have lunch or dinner here it is well worth it. If you live nearby, lucky you!
The restaurant at the Capel Vale Winery is called Match. Simple reason is the menu is a tasting plate that is matched to a varietal of wine. All the ones matched to the whites were pretty good but of the red, I would recommend choosing the Cabernet as the kangaroo loin in the Shiraz plate was very dry. The beef skewer in the Cabernet plate was very nicely done and was juicy and full of flavour. The restaurant also has a kids menu which serves the usual kids fare like spaghetti, etc. Tasting plates cost a AUD$39 with matching wines an additional AUD$10-12.Service was rather lacking as the 2 ladies that attended to the restaurant also ran the tastings but this is a good place to break the monotony of the drive between Perth and Margaret River whichever way you heading.
