Star Tavern - Cape Foulwind

In mid-March 2009, on a very rainy day, the only available accommodation in the area was a small cottage next to this pub. Derek greeted us warmly and allowed us to warm up in front of a roaring fire. Later, his lovely wife served us the best nachos we have ever had, and as we enjoyed several beverages, we shared stories with fellow travelers. We are from British Columbia on the west coast of Canada, and New Zealand reminds us of home. The Star Tavern was a hidden gem that we stumbled upon by chance, thanks to a helpful lady at Monteith Brewery who kindly called ahead for us. Don't miss out on this spot!

The staff and patrons were very friendly. The outdoor seating area was beautiful. The restaurant is a very nice place with amazing food at a reasonable price. We really enjoyed our experience.

This is the best atmosphere and friendliest pub we visited in New Zealand. A must-visit if you are on the South Island! Can I please have another special 'Julep'?

Great atmosphere and helpful staff. steak and eggs, which are cooked for perfection, congratulate to cook criss. dog friendly must be on a leash, but they were really relaxed about it. the night there in the parking lot and the next night stayed directly at the ufer in front of the domain rd.

Very friendly. Best place for motorhomes to park. I'll visit again.
