Locanda Mausonium - Campotosto

Besides the food being so good the service was stellar. We got five star service for an amazing price. Wish we found this place sooner. A must go if you visit Campotosto.

Another good recommendation from TA. This restaurant is hidden away below the little village of Miscioni on the beautiful man- made lake of Campotosto. We found it thanks to the hand painted signs and it turned out to be a newish building, comprising restaurant and hotel. Lunch didn’t start until 12.30 so we whiled away an hour in the café on the main village square. Restaurant staff were very helpful and friendly, mainly family I think, and shortly after we sat down the room started to fill up, mainly with locals. The outside covered area also seemed to fill up – it was Friday lunchtime, but before a holiday weekend. We ordered the full antipasto between two and were glad we had done as apart from the meat and cheese platter we were served a delicious bowl of lentil soup and then a bowl of greens cooked with potatoes and small pieces of bread. A meal in itself for one person! I then had the house speciality pasta made with ricotta and bacon and my wife had beautiful light gnocchi, golden from the saffron sauce, with courgettes. Both were excellent. House wine was very pleasant and the atmosphere lively and busy. Everything including the toilets was spotless. As we left we were able to chat to the owner, who was very pleasant and seemed pleased with the way this venture was going. You can’t see the lake from the restaurant, but I imagine you can from the hotel rooms above – it is a lovely sight on a sunny day.

Top dopo un giro in mtb cena tra amici. Antipasti deliziosi con prodotti nostrani, primi con pasta fatta in casa e ingredienti di alta qualità, carne fresca e cucinata alla perfezione come secondo, caffè amari e vino eccellente a prezzi onesti. Servizio superlativo. Consigliatissimo.
