Bidrage med feedbackWe were staying in a an Airbnb nearby and with no reviews in will over a year and Coronavirus still hanging around suspected this ultra-remote restaurant may be closed but we were wrong, it was surprisingly busy. With no phone signal at our place we had to drive up the preceding lunchtime to place the booking and they happily fit the ten of us in (there is a surprisingly spacious back room here, all windows open, although there is also a little outside seating too). There is no menu but for the full authentic Italian experience allow 2hrs+ and go for an antipasta starter selection, then pasta course (selection of three or four to choose from), then main (steak, fish etc) then desert/coffee. It's all reasonably priced and the wine is good. Highly recommended!
Simple and at the same time exactly what one sometimes needs. and that is real local food.. underlined LOCAL. Where taste, and no rush service, run the show. all dishes were very nice indeed, and all was served without rushing, and portions on the abundant side. Everything was perfect and the house wine also... and when it came to the bill, just as pleasant as the food. I recommend! nice indeed!
After soaking up some Puccini arias in Lucca, we drove through the woods up the mountain to Castello, with its pink neon flashing sign, looking like a red light bar. Glided through the beaded curtains, blare of Italian football match on the bar TV, seated in almost empty salle (family of four finishing up). Very friendly and helpful waiter, no menu, just explanations, some broken English/Italian. Ordered tortelli and ragu, and ravioli with a delicious nocciola (nut) cream sauce. Outstanding. Next grilled rabbit (tender and tasty) and escalope of veal with porcini, also delicious. Mixed salad sides and an ok Chianti Classico. Finished off with two grappas, one called barik highly recommended with a bit of colour and taste. The other a clean white spirit, less so. Desert was a creme brûlée with whisky hint (more of an ice cream). All for about 50 euros so excellent value. Large tip, fully deserved.
We were looking at several options in Lucca until we hit this place. The attention was spectacular and although I do not speak Italian the communication was very fluid. The terrace is quite apañada with very good atmosphere. The price of the food is quite economical, although the drinks are a bit expensive (we must always put a stick). I recommend if you want to have a nice and quiet meal.
A wide choice of pizzas, beers and gluten-free desserts. Careful and friendly staff. We ate very well.
