L'arco Antico - CALTAGIRONE

Three of us stopped for a light lunch with a tight schedule. Our salads were fresh, interesting, and substantial. The service was relaxed, almost lackadaisical, and only slightly surly. We used all of our time, but left refreshed.

After traveling for the day in the area near Piazza Armerina we returned to home base in Caltagirone. L’arco Antico is only a few steps from our apartment and had been recommended for its pizza. We wanted more than a pizza and liked the look of the outside sitting. I was disappointed in the evening, but not devastated. We ordered mussels for antipasto and while they were quite good and generous they were not delivered until after the entrees, when we asked for them yet again. The Linguini with Scampi was good flavor but not spectacular, the grilled swordfish was tasty looking and smelling but seemed dry. The riso with mushrooms was acceptable. The service was slow and seemed purposely to ignore but in their defense, there were only 2 servers for the entire outside area. That was insufficient. On leaving, the bill was inaccurate as we were charged for water that we did not order nor receive.

No pictures or painting on the walls. Acustics was bad with full of noise. Exelent service food and wine.

Wino is expensive and terrible. Pizza was ok. Vinaigrette and Balsamico comes in very cheap plastics.
