Bidrage med feedbackI had a fantastic $7 lunch at this restaurant. It included two BBQ meats (pork, pig, duck, sausage, chicken) served with rice and a small portion of cabbage. The BBQ pork and duck were delicious, and the price of $7 made it a fantastic deal for a satisfying meal.
One thing that stands out about Wai's is their variety of cooked meats. In addition to the typical BBQ duck, soya chicken, char siu, and BBQ pork offered at other Chinatown BBQ spots, Wai's also serves aged/dark soya pig stomach and intestines, which are considered delicacies. During my visit, they also had what appeared to be pig's feet in bean curd sauce. I purchased $4 worth of char siu and BBQ pork, along with $3 worth of pig stomach. The BBQ pork was well-cooked, moist, slightly tough but still tender, and had a crunchy skin. The bean paste sauce added a nice flavor without overpowering the pork taste. However, I was not a fan of the char siu. While it had a good flavor with a hint of sweetness and a strong pork taste, I found it to be overly dry, almost like it was overcooked and had the texture of old croutons. The pig stomach was tasty, though slightly salty. It was cooked perfectly, with a chewy texture that wasn't too gelatinous or tough. Despite the dry char siu, I would consider returning to Wai's, but I would likely not order the char siu again. As a side note, I noticed that the lunch box menu price has increased from $5 to $7.
This takeout restaurant offers amazing food at a great value. For just $5, you can get a ricebox with BBQ pork and roast pork that will leave you absolutely stuffed. The ginger green onion garnish adds the perfect finishing touch. While it's only available for takeout, it's worth grabbing your meal and heading over to James Short Park to enjoy. Just $5 for a delicious and filling meal.
