Dr. Ampex - Cagliari

A wonderful discovery! We stumbled across this gem while wandering the back streets of Cagliari. There is no menu, so you just sit and wait to see what turns up! A delicious beef carpaccio, followed by tuna carpaccio, followed by pasta in meat sauce. Everything was delicious. Service was perfect, and you actually feel like you’re sitting in someone’s dining room. Excellent value too. Highly recommended.

We were looking for not very touristic place and accidentally we saw this little restaurant whiteout the menu. As we were curious , we decided to try. The menu was great, the host was superb. We had a testing menu with carafe of house wine and digestive. We paid 55 euro. We left very happy. It is nice to be surprised and to wait for the next dish.

Staying for a few days in Cagliari, we read through scores of Restaurant reviews, and it was very hard to choose. We wanted a Sardinian supper but not an overpriced and under skilled tourist version. And we really didn't know how to choose. Then I found that this small place, Dr Ampex, had very good reviews on TripAdvisor and other sites...so we booked. Choosing wasn't difficult because there was no menu! On the other hand we managed perfectly well to communicate mostly to say how delicious the previous course had been. Orlando and his wife produced a seemingly endless variety of Antipasti, followed by pasta, and a main course, and a desert and a sticky drink and with wine all for 30 Euros inclusive. This is a simple, friendly, and excellent trattoria, in a fine part of Cagliari, so we had a lovely walk back to our apartment in Marina district afterwards. Highly recommended. Came here for the most authentic meal in Cagliari. A small Nana will probably welcome you at the door and her son will take your order. You have a delicious and affordable tasting menu. Best fresh pasta. And local Sardinian homemade specialities. If you're a foodie, you shouldn't leave Cagliari without coming here!

If you want to taste traditional Sardinian cuisine, you have to go there. it is amazing how to be treated and eat is amazing. there is no menu, they are waiting for the next appetizer.
