The Harp Inn - Caerphilly

I went to this restaurant in the evening for a drink. As soon as I arrived, I noticed a sketchy individual who appeared to be under the influence of something, as his eyes were wide open. The bar staff seemed unconcerned. The man became hostile and aggressive towards me for no reason, insulting me because he didn't like my appearance. It was a terrible and frightening experience. The bar staff witnessed everything but were unhelpful. I will never return to this place where I felt violated by a drug user and ridiculed by the staff. I reluctantly give it one star, but I would prefer not to give any. In one word: obnoxious.

I had a very negative experience during my first and only visit to this restaurant. The staff members were rude and aggressive, and I felt unsafe in their presence. I do not recommend dining here if you want to avoid being mistreated by the staff and potentially even facing legal consequences. It was a disappointing and unpleasant experience that I do not wish to repeat.

Upon arriving at the traditional, family-friendly pub, we were impressed by the lively atmosphere (with TVs showing live sports, a dart board, and live music) and the friendly staff. We received a warm welcome and found the pub to be tastefully decorated. It was packed with customers, but still very clean. My partner and I decided to have a three-course meal, while our young son just had the main course. I ordered garlic mushrooms for starters, chicken and stuffing roast dinner for my main, and cheesecake for dessert. My partner had fish cake for starters, beef dinner for main, and apple crumble with custard for dessert. Our son had the chicken dinner for his main course but also sampled our starters and desserts. The roast dinners were fantastic, served with a variety of vegetables, roast potatoes, a Yorkshire pudding, homemade gravy, and a selection of sauces. The food was delicious and great value for money. We will definitely be returning, as the menu had a wide range of options including vegetarian and children's meals, as well as steaks, burgers, mixed grills, curries, and more.

Went for Sunday lunch with the in laws. The bar was very noisy with a lot of shouting and swearing as a football match was on the TV. It was noisy in the restaurant, as the noise came straight through. Service was a bit amateurish, as we were asked what we wanted even though we had not had a menu. Food was just ok, but peas were like little cannonballs, and the cabbage had a tinny taste. The yorkies were good though. We finished the main, and waited at least 20 mins for pudding choice, but decided to leave instead without pudding. Went to pay, only to find the place doesn't accept cards! Not acceptable in this day and age, as we don't usually carry that much cash to pay for a meal for 6! I'll choose somewhere else next time.

Fantastic owners and workers, amazing people who are regulars. Do delicious meals through out the week, especially Sunday lunches. Variety of beers, lagers and mixers. Great scenery and a brilliant beer garden, a proper sun-catcher.
