Bidrage med feedbackThis place is always one of my favorites to stop and get some food. The majority of their menu is fried, but with the homemade dough it is so delicious! My go-to is usually fried mushrooms and a black crab cake sandwich. The protion sizes are nothing to disappoint and the price is just right. The staff is always hard working and friendly even if it's crazy busy! If you're in the area, stop by and give him a whirl!
Mudcat Charlie is for lunch! To dine on the enclosed veranda, which was very well air conditioned on a hot day. Nice to look over the marina and the river. We started with the crab starter...WOW, what a delicious lunch. Crunchy on the outside and so moist, tasteful and packed with juicy crab on the inside. That could have been my lunch. My companion ordered all the boned cats, but they were out. Our server said that their supplier cannot get catfish, so another victim of supply chain problems. Then we both ordered the fried shrimp flour with two sides. Shrimp came slightly broken, crispy and well seasoned. We both agreed that the shrimps were delicious. The pages were ho-hum. Fries and sweet potatoes were nothing special. My Cole Slav came undressed with a seasoned Mayo dressing on the side. Again, Ho-hum, and I didn't like dressing. My companion had the green beans that were also ho-hum. Server was attentive, friendly and helpful, and everything came hot and fresh. For the amount of money I was disappointed that the whole meal was not better.
When we first moved up, we were not sure where the restaurant was. There is no real shield to say where the entrance is. Once we found and entered it, we found a kind of sports bar seafood snack restaurant. Quite exactly what you would expect from Mudcat Charlie. We sat on the inside porch and did not expect too much from the menu: fried, grilled or darkened options for fish, shrimp, scallops, etc. Again your typical seafood snack menu. But when I asked what the grilled fish was, something local was told to me. I can't remember what it was called, but it was definitely caught in local waters, as I've never heard. When it arrived, it was nicely seasoned on a soft hoagie role, with homemade tartaric acid and cocktail sauce for diving. It also came with very fresh Romaine and fresh tomatoes. I'm looking forward to going back to find out what it was so I can order it again. If you are in the Brunswick region and have some time for wonderful fresh seafood, take a trip to Mudcat Charlie's. You will not be disappointed!
We stopped a lunch on our way home. This place found online (Gogle maps) and it looked right up my alley! I wasn't disappointed. Beer was ice cold, fish was perfectly cooked, and the waiting staff was great! Don't let the outside scare you, it's a great find. Obviously the locals love it, and I saw the occasional boat tie up and come for lunch!
Mudcat Charlie's was a delightful lunch stop. I love Brunswick stew and it is delicious here. The place was not busy so the bartender server gave us great attention. The view was good as we love anywhere on the water. I'll try to make it a point to dine again when we are back in the area!
