Bidrage med feedbackI recently dined to best friends “Kainan sa Valley” to see if there are improvements from my last visit. after eating at other Filipino foods in qld (cairns, browns plains, gold coast, redcliffe) I find eating in kainan poor or cut. the prices have been for my last visit, but used the same small plate, so I don't think I get worth for my extra dollar. their services are not generous, very measured and lean more on “less”. if they want taste resistance and worth money, I would learn to cook these dishes themselves. it is not difficult to use many free resources in the net (i.e. filipino food bloggers, youtube how to’s, books from the library). ingredients are easy to find in any Asian business, only google ‘filipino food’ and they will see a good list. parking in the valley is not easy so they need to do more to convince me to come back here. when they are close, they will go over the bridge (near the valley train), and they will find baptisms of other kitchen.
It's my first time to try Filipino's kitchen. nice staff. he was patient to answer all my questions to eat. I decided to buy bark and their sweets. strangely the bark tasted like in Indonesia. will try other dishes again.
I came here to repair my food supplement. I chose the pigs with tomato and garnel paste (binagoongan pork) and the unripe jack fruit in cocosmilk (sound short but yum!)
I was here about 5 times in the last 3yrs, but today I saw a bitter melon / gourd sometimes known as 'cumbers with herpes' dish. sauteed bitter melon and ei. who could go past this? not I! let it go with a scoop of rice and one of the 3 pigs. I choose pork adobo it is brewed in edgy, soy sauce, garlic leaves. no chili just sweet chili sauce and ketchup in the offer. Really? half a star immediately off! at $7.90 a fair price and fair serve so ok of me. look around here. hmm. let's just describe the scene as 'down at heel' chic, but this is with b.y.o chic. mcwhirters' dining room really needs a 'make over', but...read more
Naivety.. This establishment is in no way of bad taste, nor do they do anything wrong recipe wise. I am an Australian Filipino, have eaten filo food ever since I was born. Every dish is true to its name and cooked and prepared on the spot fresh everyday and made with love. I don't know any of the cooks there but they do a brilliant job. The food tastes amazing. Yes there are dishes that question the tastebuds but that is because we are not Filipino. If you find it fatty, that's because it is. If you find it salty, that's because it is! Thier food is true to Filipinos and I believe everything they do is beautiful, they are clean hygienic and fresh using products from thier shop, Best...read more
