Grotto Val d’Ambra - Bodio

We had lunch at Grotto Val d'Ambra with our 6 months old daughter. We had already been there one year before and we decided to come back as soon as possible. The staff was very welcoming and the service quite fast. The waitress played a lot with our daughter and made her laugh and, in general, everyone went out of his way to be kind to the baby. The food is very good and typical, with a limited but satisfying choice of local products. The price is more than reasonable. I can hardly remember any other place in Switzerland were I had such good meal for so few franks. As other reviewers have pointed out, cured meat and salami is a definite must of the place.Altogether, a very satisfying meal in a beautiful garden with swings and other amenities for children.

I had totally three dinners here in two years. Passing by the area by highway, I stopped with guests and enjoyed this classic Tissin "grotto" -that's how they call simple restaurants adjacent to the mountains, often consisting of grottos where cheese and ham is stored.The menu is limited in variety but everything is delicious, you sit on stone benches, resting under the trees of the wood. Local salame, ham, cheese are all to be tested.It's a family place, you may feel to be part of a cheerful micro-cosmos and forget any rush for the time you stay. I'll try any time to come back here.

On a rainy Saturday, with my family, a group of 6, passing by bike at 1230, despite the high marks, we felt very very unwelcome -;((. After a bit of discussion we finally managed to get a Ticino plate which was OK. A hot soup to warm up was declined. Host and staff were not interested at all to do business. I love this place and I keep going back.Not much choice of food but it's what a grotto should offer.People are friendly, service is fast, location perfect if you are looking for a place where is cool in Summer.Kids do have a swing and some stuffs to play with.
