Bidrage med feedbackEating at heckman was actually quite good, but the service was very strange. only some of our party got our food, and it came from a higglety deaf. the one person who didn't get her had suppe ordered, certainly not something you would normally have to wait for. it felt like no one trained the server.
I'm pulled out of chicago, where they have the best of the best pinned bark. this is a good alternative and the pastrami was also great!
With the closure of krupin’s deli DC/Bethesda lacks a good deli. heckman’s deli is eating like your grandmother who has cooked on the table directly down to the pickles. the family in possession / running is an additional bonus!
Great food. I think we were just unhappy, but the day we went to lunch was a very cold day, and the heating system of the delis had stopped. I had to wear my heavy winter coat during lunch. there was a portable heizer on the counter, so we chose the next table to the counter. the service was very friendly and efficient. on this day only two or three more tables were occupied.
We had eaten at Heckman's before, but we had been hesitant to return because of poor service. The food has always been good, but the total disorganization and poor management is evident in all aspects of the deli. We made a reservation for dinner on Christmas night. We arrived and were seated on time. But the place was a zoo, with frenetic and harried waitstaff. After we were seated, a table nearby with menus still open, decided to leave. When one of our group went to use the rest room, both rest rooms were out of order. After that, we decided to leave rather than suffering through another bad service event. We won't be back. Too bad!
