It used to be Mel's back in the day. The restaurant still offers classic diner food, but it seems to be lacking the French dip that I used to enjoy. The server was friendly and the service was quick, making it a good spot for a fast meal.
I usually don’t write reviews, but after seeing several negative comments about this restaurant, I felt compelled to share my positive experiences. I often visit with colleagues for lunch, and I've always enjoyed it here. The service is great, the atmosphere is pleasant, and the food meets my expectations for diner fare. If you're looking for classic diner food and ambiance, this is the top spot in Berkeley.
Burgers and wings. This is a great spot to relax and savor your meal. The classic music and spacious layout contribute to a soothing atmosphere. You can also sit at the counter to enjoy your food there.
I went to this restaurant with some friends after another place (Cancun) was closed, and the other option (Jupiter) only allowed entry with alcohol. The restaurant has a classic retro vibe, featuring jukeboxes and pictures of icons like Marilyn Monroe. I ordered from the breakfast menu and chose the chicken fried steak and eggs. While I found the fried steak to be decent, the gravy was excessively salty. The hash browns weren't crispy enough, which was a bit disappointing. One of my friends also ordered the dinner version of the chicken fried steak and was underwhelmed; we both agreed that the breakfast version was better. I heard that the burgers were decent but not anything exceptional. Overall, I would describe this restaurant as average. The prices were a bit on the high side, so I'd recommend checking out the many other dining options in Berkeley instead.
