Bidrage med feedbackWe dine fortnightly at Wonder Taste for our Asian fix. We are fastidious home cook foodies and expect above our own home standard when we dine out. Wondertaste goes above the average standard and never disappoints. This restaurant is the best Asian eatery in Gken Eira Region and you owe yourself this scrumptious dining experience. Thank you Jowan and your dedicated Chef team - you are all a standout.
We had a family dinner recently after this restaurant was recommended to us. The staff were amazing, they were always checking on us, informative and friendly. We had to wait over 45 min as there was another big group alongside us but staff did there best to help. We order the sliced beef with black bean sauce, sweet and sour pork, Peking duck and the chef special fried prawns with crushed garlic. Nothing stood out as above average. The chef's special though very tasty was very dry and had no sauce. I asked for chilli and soy sauce to help ease its dryness but it didnt really help. With respect any food court could have served me the same meals for under $40. So overall i was disappointed after spending $115 on very average food.
Our little local Chinese-Cantonese gem ! We have had several takeaways via Menulog before we started to dine inhouse, and have been back several times. Authentic Cantonese cuisine - HUGE servings (but with city prices to match). Quality and fresh ingredients each and every single dish we have had here - even the place rice accompaniment is fresh (not always the case in most Chinese restaurants). Extremely friendly staff, but timing is slow and steady - you will a problem if you are one to rush through a meal! Cannot stress more the true authentic Cantonese taste in all its offerings.
I had despaired about finding a truly good Cantonese-Chinese restaurant in this part of Melbourne until I had a meal at Wonder Taste this evening. There is absolutely no Cantonese restaurant of any worth any longer in the area - not in Carnegie, Bentleigh etc. and certainly not in Chadstone Shopping Centre. The once ubiquitous suburban Cantonese restaurant has been swept away by the wave of Korean, Thai and Japanese eateries that have over-run Melbourne. We had:1. Char Kway Teow - the noodles were properly fried to get the essential 'wok-hei' flavour. Tasty and not too oily though slightly on the salty side. 2. Fish fillet with eggplant and tofu - very rich in flavour with thick fish fillets coated first in batter before being submerged in the generous sauce. 3. French beans fried with Belachan - tender, fresh beans only lightly fried with belachan. You can still taste the crunchy beans and that is the strength of this Wonder Taste version. 4. Deep-fried chicken ribs - coated in a very tasty light and crunchy batter that also contains an admixture of minced spring onions and garlic. Very unusual and striking batter I thought. The ribs were fleshy and juicy, not hard and dry. A very fine dish indeed. Finally, finally, we have found the best Cantonese cooking for miles around. I had actually given up all hope of finding such a thing in the suburbs.
Visited this place a couple of weeks ago with my wife and two adult children and this is what happened. We arrived at 6.00 pm Saturday, and was told the booking was for 6.30 (ok my mistake), so i told them we would wait . The tables werent set so he told us he would need to set the table.Saturday 6.00pm and no tables set, i realized then that this did not feel right however, i decided we would give them the benefit of the doubt(idiot that i am). We ordered entrees, the satay chicken that my wife and daughter chose, would you believe it was still red and they refused to eat it. Other entrees we ordered were also average if not poor quality. Mains were the same, smothered in sauce and salty or msg, and the $14.00 cocktails, the two of which we ordered were like turpentine. Really , margaritas are meant to be frozen, this was like turps. The mojito was also shocking. If you are offering cocktails make sure you know how to make them especially when charging $14.00 per cocktail, dont try to fool the customer as they will know just like we did.. Atmosphere is non existent also. The only reason I visited this place is that we use to go when it was Korean BBQ restaurant and the food was always of top quality during the numerous times we visited this place, but now i will not return as i dont think they have any idea of what they are doing. Sorry for the bad review, as i do not like writing bad reviews, but pick up your game as your standards are of poor quality, especially in Melbourne with so many choices of Asian cuisine available.
