Beautiful room, beautiful selection of Mexican dishes on the menu, beautiful presentations on the plate, entertainment two nights a week and very good servers.
We have had the pleasure and misfortune to eat here three night out of five during our first week back at the Grand Residences. I say misfortune only because on Saturday night both of the restaurants here offered only an International Buffet. We did not check the price before we were seated. At $75 a person, this meal was extremely overpriced. While it was generally good, it did not merit this amount of money, in our opinion and nearly every other owner present. Too the all inclusive guests, it was just another dinner. Pastas were not warm, their Prime Rib was 1/2 fat per slice, salads were great, the multitude of dessert choices left you wondering which 2 or 3 should I try. I was at the point of thinking I would no longer eat in these restaurants again during our stay, but take a taxi into Puerto Morelos, have a good meal and pay half the price. Their Heaven Beach Bar is not a part of this plan, as their food, waiters, service and drink prices are generally very good. This review is I believe the third of this restaurant. I split the middle between the others, and I was deeply influenced by the Buffet night. The pervious night was very good, I had the Short Ribs, some of the best I have ever had, the Mashed Potatoes were just a faint smear across the plate, dissapiontingly small portion. The carrots well prepared but again small in size and number. Something has changed at this resort, this being our sixth year here. And the change is so far NOT FOR THE BETTER.
Flor de Canela The meals prepared this date by Executive Chef Yann Cozic, and his staff were fantastic! Wait Capitan Antonio Felix advised that the menu will change in conjunction with the season so be sure to review it prior to your visit. My wife and I reviewed the cocktail menu, it was a complete offering of libations for the most discriminating adult. Knowing that I would ask for a steak I ordered my favorite Mexican beer Modelo Negro, a somewhat heavier dark beer. My wife decided on an authentic Mexican Margarita. The next order of business was deciding on the meal. I requested the steak medium rare while my wife asked for the grilled fish. The entrées were moist and tasty and delivered in generous portions. Side dishes included black beans and vegetables. The steak was presented on its own table sized hibachi grill, its sizzling aromas filed my senses whetting my appetite. I was not disappointed, it was one of the better steaks I have ever experienced in Mexico. My wife relished her fish and commented so through out our meal. Our waiter was extremely polite suggesting menu items and accompaniments. My standard for service is the water glass. My water glass standard is in reality a good excuse for the waiter to visit patrons filling their water glasses and seeing that foods are as ordered! Our waiter made sure we were happy as his smiling face made several visits to our table, sparkling service to say the very least! Knowing that the waiter was carefully watching over our table made our meal that much more enjoyable. The ambiance is truly Mexican, the adornments and furniture greeting the arriving guests could very possibly have come from a regal hacienda. The dinning room beyond the entry area continues the Mexican motif with dinning tables and sidebars telling of a rich cultural heritage. A Mariachi band and female dancer provided a romantic yet subtle setting for the diners through out the evening. Nonetheless, the mood is such that families could be seen in a festive mood enjoying meals as well. The food and service were well paired in this evening 's setting! This diner felt that everything possible was done for our personal satisfaction. I will go back one day in the not too distant future, I hope to see you there!
This restaurant just opened in December. Due to great recommendations from our concierge at a sister hotel, Royal Haciendas, we made reservations for tonight. The hotel is in a very remote area between cancun and Playa Del Carmen. Rustic and sparsely populated. We arrived and were escorted to the restaurant. Asked if we wanted to seat outside, and when we said yes, we're told that there were lots of mosquitos. Why ask? Our table had been reserved but our name was misspelled on the sign. The menu is very limited. However, I had gone because of a very typical dish Cochinita pibil. They had not even asked what we wanted to drink when they told us that it was not available. Very disappointing. Too many waiters, a woman sweeping under a table as food was being served. We were asked what we wanted to drink without giving us a wine list. I ordered a pibil tostada (they had pibil for that). It was ok. My husband ordered their guacamole which was low on salt. A generous portion with few chips, which we had to order several times. Then came the bean soup, the plate was very hot, the soup was cold. The room looked like the remnants of chi chi. Do not waste your time or money on this restaurant. Definitely not worth it.
