Bidrage med feedbackCedars used to be my favorite restaurant in Beaufort, NC. No longer. We arrived yesterday and had reservations. The restaurant was empty at prime dinner hour. PFirst suspicious sign. I've eaten at Cedars at least 6 times in the recent past. It's always packed. Not last night. Learned it changed hands during the winter. The couple who ran it was clearly gone. The waitress did not know the menu. Simple questions were met with a shrug. We asked to speak to the chef. He did not convey confidence. The final straw turned out to be the fact that they did not offer a simple garden salad and had no bread. Questions regarding fresh fish Endless Summer met with we pick it up fresh at a local fish store. Whether it was frozen or fresh beyond that was unknown. We walked and went to the Blue Moon. Had a great meal. Tonight we will go to the Beaufort Grocery.
Went to The Cedars July 22nd with great anticipation with good friends who had eaten there before. They had told us what a WONDERFUL experience they had when they ate there last year. With great anticipation we entered the place without a greeting from a hostess. Waited a short time before being acknowledged but were seated at a nice table in a room by ourselves. Five minutes passed before our waitress came over to speak to us. Keep in mind the place was less than half full and she was waiting on ONE other table. She ran through the specials so fast we had her repeat them three times and we still didn't know for sure what they were. When we did get it straight that there was a grouper special, we were all excited. She left without taking drink orders so we continued to look at the menu to decide what we wanted to eat. She returned to our table long enough for us to ask her to cork a bottle of wine we had brought. Told us corkage fee was twenty bucks which would have been fine except I had called and ask what it was and was told fifteen. No big deal but she left the table with the wine and took no one else's drink order. She returned shortly with six glasses for the table, guess she thought we were all going to have a sip from one bottle, oh well. Things couldn't get worse, right. She finally took our drink orders. It took quite a while as she explained to us that they had just gotten their liquor license and only had a few in stock. Ordered Crown on the rocks, lemon drop, cosmo, etc. no luck. Finally ordered some bottom shelf stuff, we're flexible. Drinks came after about fifteen minutes and boy did we need it. We decided we would go ahead and order apps and entrees which we tried to do but we're finally told they might be out of the grouper . She leaves and returns to tell us yes they were out. How about some prior knowledge so we could reserve some for our table! We ordered five scollop dishes and a shrimp and grits that were all very good. As we were waiting for entrees we had to ask if they had bread that she brought to us. We shouldn't have ask. Tasted like day old miniature doe balls that were awful. We ate our meal and ask for the checks. That went well until I saw that they had charged for a nine dollar house salad instead of the four dollar house salad which I had specifically pointed out in the menu to her, poor girl. She fixed the bill and we left quickly, what an experience!
