The Swan Inn - Basingstoke and Deane

Although we arrived late, and the kitchen was closed, one of the owners and the staff made every effort to accommodate us. The food was excellent (chicken wings and mac and cheese) and the friendliness of the staff was outstanding. Truly a place where we came in as strangers and felt we left as friends. Definitely a place we will visit again when in the area. Additionally, the restaurant is extremely cozy and gorgeous.

Popped in for the Sunday lunch. Greeted at the door and shown to a table immediately. I had the Roast chicken and the wife had Salmon. Absolutely lovely. Hot and plentiful just as we had hoped for in a charming location Strongly recommend.

I’ve tried so hard to like this place. It’s in a great setting and walking distance for us, but I just can’t get away from how awful the food is and how little the staff seem to care. First time, I had beef bourguignon which resembles a poor version of my Grannies beef stew not a classic red wine infused dish from Burgundy. Second I played safe with a cheeseburger which was burnt. On our final visit I ordered the vegan burger which was burnt around the outside and, oddly, a sort of pale grey in the middle. On this occasion I mentioned the poor quality of the food to the restaurant manager, indicating I wasn’t too keen to pay full price, to which he just said “yeah that’s just personal preference so, full price”. Personal preference…?? Needless to say we haven’t been back since. Shame because the place has loads of potential, but unfortunately, also loads of awful food.

We came here on a busy Friday evening without a booking, but got a table in a nice room almost to ourselves. We had some very tired children with us causing a bit of a hassle. But the staff were remarkably understanding and patient and made the children feel welcome. The menu is quite extensive and we each had some lovely meals, served with a smile. I am grateful for the marvellous service and we will surely come back.

Excellent food and service. Went with work colleagues for Xmas lunch. Lovely setting overlooking a stream.
