Bidrage med feedbackAlthough I call the hotel several restaurants in this area that explained that they were open until 8:30, we arrived by taxi to find all closed. On the way back we discovered this restaurant and found it open. There were two more diners in the restaurant. I had what she had labeled with a New York stripe, but actually got a non-too-tasty stripe like steak with a wide edge of fat and gristle on one side and what seemed a four times baked potato the size of a silver dollar. When I got the bill, I was shocked, 869 pesos or about $47. USD. Nothing to do as paying the bill. What a demolition. Treat yourself to a restaurant around the Zocalo and save some money.
I'm not sure what some other people are looking for but for me this hotel is perfect for so many reasons. I've stayed in most countries of the world and some of the best rated hotels while there and this hotel has a different enchanting feel to it that you don't get in big chain hotels. It's small but the gardens and pool area are stunning. The mix of old and new is tasteful and the thought that has gone in to the design is brilliance in my opinion. It's not fancy or cluttered it's simple and relaxed and all the staff are friendly and attentive. I actually live in Puebla now and stayed there as a treat for my parents who visited and we couldn't fault it. Well there was one exception that the tamazcal couldn't be used as a regular thing it was by arrangement. Maybe if it was made dual use as a steam room it would make the evening use of the heated pool perfect. I intend to visit often again to chill out for lunch and by the pool or stay the odd night. Taking about good they do the second best steak I've had in my life (the first being about 20 x the cost in bones/Seattle) the rib eye is highly recommended and I tried most of the other cuts and preferred this one overall. I saw a comment about music which made me chuckle because the only music I've ever heard them playing is relaxing old style classics. That was an interesting comment. Anyway I couldn't rate this place higher and in a way reluctant to rate it because in a way I don't want too many people to find out about it and make it busy. We stayed 3 nights in the week and it felt like we almost had the place to ourselves. If you want amazing steak, good margaritas, small boutique hotel with classic feel and the personal feel then this is honesty the best place I've been too like it. And to top it off it's almost always sunny in ataxico and they are 2 mins away from a great golf club I found while staying there called el christo (don't have to be a member to play either) Enjoy!!!
They turned on the music before I woke up. I admit that it was past 9 but still I didn't appreciate it. And they only disscounted 100 pesos from Breakfast. I didn't enjoy the hotel at all and had to leave earlier than
Very good traditional local cuisine in a beautiful old mansion/estate. Service somewhat slow, but very attentive and polite. Recommended for late lunch or dinner, as the lighting and fireplace make it even more beautiful.
From the minute walk in Las Calandrias, the well maintained gardens and tastefully decorated terrain will impress you. The cheap Sunday brunch buffet includes a wide selection of Mexican brunch fortifications, including tacos, licuados, tailor-made chilaquiles with attention to detail. The purple lemonade, made with sweet bougainville leaves, was an example of the original and tasteful note that Las Calandrias seems to put in their products.
