Was here attending a wedding and the setting is absolutely gorgeous. Gardens overlooking lake with lovely walks. Food was excellent and staff very friendly. Didn't stay the night so can't comment on the rooms, but would definitely recommend the for the food and the views.
My visit was brief and on a professional basis, but this place has all the facilities one might expect for a relaxing break, particularly if you are into golf. I believe the course was designed by Christy O'Connor Jr., and the entire complex was redeveloped to a very high standard recently. This included new restaurants, bars, room interiors, an outdoor dining area, an outdoor heated pool, and much more. The course boasts some of the best views of the beautiful Lough Ree. The resort was acquired by the Press Up Hospitality Group in 2018, which is known for unique and bespoke designs in the hotel industry. On my visit, the staff seemed really pleasant, professional, and not intrusive, knowing when they were needed and when to leave the guests to themselves. There didn't seem to be a plethora of managerial staff floating around, which I liked because often in such places, there's often a raft of managerial personnel on the floor unnecessarily. As I said, for those into golf, it would be hard to find a more well set up resort. There's even, not one, but two, helipads for those wanting to arrive by helicopter a short walk from the club house.
The hotel and bedrooms are beautifully presented and decorated (even though the record player was not working). On arrival we decided to have some lunch in Bonnies which was very tasty and the service was ok. Our empty plates were left sitting with us for some time and we were also left waiting for our drinks for some time; we could see them sitting on the bar. My sister even approached the bar at one stage to ask if she could take the tray. There were 3 trays all being bypassed by staff so other tables must have been waiting too. We decided to take a swim later in the afternoon just as the drinks reception for the wedding was starting. FYI It is such an exposed area. I am sure the bride and groom would of appreciated a little more privacy plus us as guests felt completely on show walking through the outdoor bar area in robes and de-robing in front of both diners and wedding guests. Breakfast the next morning left us feeling underwhelmed. No buffet, no fresh fruit, no juice to help yourself to. It was a sit down service and we did not feel we got value for money. Our room was €529 for B&B alone (3 pax a Saturday in July). We did spot some pastries put on the bar to take but these felt more of an afterthought. A hotel breakfast normally offers cereals, fruit, meats, cheeses, pastries, juices, toast etc that a guest can avail of at their own leisure. None of this was possible. It was merely a choice of porridge versus a full Irish; Certainly no comparison here money wise. My sister also ordered a second coffee which was served to us without the empty cup taken away, the 101 of waiting. Overall we had a lovely stay but we did feel that the price was high in comparison to what we got. We felt that Glasson Lakehouse was lacking a little.
Stayed Thursday 18th January. Fabulous hotel, brilliant location. Staff could not have been more helpful and welcoming. Looking forward to a return visit.
