La Finette - Arbois

We had a good lunch here. It was not actually in August 2019, but a year ago or so. I should have checked, but forget. The staff was friendly during booking, welcome and service. The food is good and we were happy. I need to remember that they don't take cards, but I could be wrong.

Of all the restaurants we ate in during our week in Jura, this would probably rank at the bottom. That's not to say the meal was terrible, but it just didn't appeal to us. We split a salad and then each ordered the Poulet du...Jura, chicken covered in a sauce made with morels, some other mushrooms and vin jaune, a very distinctive wine that is only produced in Jura. The mushrooms were very tasty, but the chicken seemed to have more bones and skin than meat. Maybe I'm just not accustomed to eating chicken that comes from a real farm, as opposed to a Purdue factory. In any case, we both found the dish unappealing. The restaurant is pretty large and I didn't really get a look at the entire space, but the dining room we were in was pretty rustic, a good match for our food.

Harty regional cuisine on the menu and the fondue, the bread and the cold cuts are good. The salad with trout was mediocre and the ham with mushroom sauce merely eatable. Had half a bottle of Chardonnay (J. Tissot) which was nice and half a...bottle of Savagnin (Chateau Bethanie) which I found corky and which tasted like Sherry. The waiter explained that this was the typical taste of the Savagnin grape and refused to bring another bottle.

Not many French restaurants are like this. A real taste of the Jura. Great for a trencherman. Great tasting local food at really good value prices. The portions are generous. Local specialities reign. Do not be afraid to go for a menu with fewer than...4 courses. The Comte fondue is worth a visit and is a complete meal on its own albeit a charcuterie platter to accompany adds meaty heft if such is required. Bon appetit

Restaurant which serves local food almost exclusively. We liked the fondue very much. One of the kids didn't like the food, the other one loved it. They don't have the usual kids menu.
