If you really want to taste the food of the region then l'Auberge du Brelan is one of the best options in these parts.
We booked a table for two at lunchtime. We arrived, parked the car under the trees and wandered into a large, modern diningroom; three of the four walls were made of glass, and outside the most glorious wooded landscape made us feel relaxed and comfortable....More
We wanted to avoid veal and foie gras because of animal welfare concerns - not easy around here! Auberge du Brelan delivered - and with style. We had squid stuffed with mushrooms with sea-foam (starter); chicken supreme, cod, and steak (mains); and sundae and a chocolate confection (desserts). They were all delicious, beautifully presented and in just-right portion sizes. They were original too - it's always nice to experience a slightly different take on food. The restaurant is a new building elegantly decorated in grey. It's in a wooded clearing and is easily missed if you approach from the west. The waiting staff were patient and kind about our poor French. Service was at a good pace. We saw only 2 empty tables on a Tuesday night. It wasn't a bargain - €21 for 2 courses and I think €30 for 3 - but we'd definitely come again for the quality and competence of this little gem.
This is a Restraunt which we have eaten at on a number of occasions in the past and always had a good meal and excellent service. The location is a bit unusual and perhaps on first impressions more like a roadside eatery than a real Restraunt, however on entering the environment is relatively okay. This year we eat our first meal and noted they had tried to enhance the exterior eating space a little ..and it's moving in the right direction. The menu had changed considerably insofar as the choice of dishes has been reduced considerably on last year. I think there was four starters and four mains and four desserts. The food was good and well presented but I am not so sure that I would be planning frequent visits unless the menu was changing...I know the old saying don't fix what is not broken but restraints need to challenge and change if they are to progress and succeed, this felt like we have a few dishes they work so don't push the boat.Four people plus wine 168 euros ..won't break the bank but at the same time not every week.Certainly good for once every six/ eight months at a push.
