Perkins Bakery - Ankeny

Perkins is a fantastic restaurant that I believe appeals to an older crowd, which is why I enjoy coming here. However, it is not exclusively for older patrons. I appreciate the wide variety of items on the menu, and the bakery selection is top-notch. Today, I may only have coffee as I ate too much at lunch, but my wife will have a meal and we have invited my son and his wife to join us, so they will make up for what I can't finish. The service from our server was excellent and the restaurant and restrooms were clean, which is important to me when giving a review.

The restaurant was quite busy, as expected on a Sunday morning with church services and high school graduation nearby. Our server seemed new and we were seated in a forgettable location, resulting in a long wait to place our order (including drinks) and drinks sitting empty for a while. However, the food was fantastic and served hot, so we had no complaints in that regard.

Although our order was taken a little later than expected, the server who eventually came to our table was very cheerful and friendly. We were so pleased with her service that we didn't even notice the wait. Her excellent attitude is something other servers should aspire to, and as a result, we left a generous tip.
