A lot of work and thought has gone into this place. And they have done a great job. Who knew that you could fuse French and Goan food?
La Poisson Rouue is a chic restaurant, just after the Baga Bridge, with al fresco dining. Its describes itself as Creative Indo-French cuisine! It claims this correctly. We have been to Le Poisson at least 3 times, if not 4..Goa memories are usually fuzzy! The feel of La Poisson is Urban Goa Cool, while it still retains its chic factor.Through a small quaint and very old door, and once you step in, you are greeted with discreetly set tables under coconut trees. Compared to our other Goan favourite, Fiesta, its smaller and more monochrome and the feeling of being under the stars is heightened here, because unlike Tito’s Lane, here the sky is beautiful and visible. The restaurant has a notable wine list. The bar does the job of being the centre spot of the otherwise al fresco seating. Its white and quite understated, adding to the quaint charm of the place.Le Poisson Rouge is quite popular with the glitterati and those who have a palette for new tastes – it is Indo French Fusion after all. You will find the restaurant if you search for Fine Dine restaurants in Goa. I have not searched but I am sure, it’ll feature on the list. The leitmotif of the restaurant is of course fish and this is obvious from the name, Le Poisson Rouge which translates to The Red Fish. The seafood menu changes regularly based on what produce and catch is available but there's always a set menu of the 5 main courses. You see a seamless coming together of French culinary techniques and a selection of organic produce from India. Its delectable and distinctively Indo-French fusion Cuisine. Where else would you come across a buffalo mozzarella samosa eh?Like all real good restaurants, the menu is not very extensive. They do what they do best! Sometimes I feel sorry for myself that my seafood taste buds are stunted. What we Drank and Ate:DRINKS:Completely overlooking the extensive wine menu(we are Whiskey, Beer and Old Monk drinkers (note how i did not say Rum :), we started off by ordering beer – Paulaner, the Bavarian hefewiezen. Paulaner ranks number 8 among Germany's best selling breweries. We went for Paulaner Hefe-Weissbier Naturtrüb and Paulaner Original Muncher Hell i.e. wheat beer natural and wheat beer dark. These are among the most popular beers in the Paulaner range. EATS:Grilled Aubergines: I am going to have to say NO to this one. When one says grilled, I imagine, crispy aubergines, but they were kind of slimy, probably because of the jus and the dressed veggies around it.From the Mains, I really like the Chicken Supreme – It is **** Good. Crunchy on the outside and was beautifully cooked on the inside. It comes with mashed potatoes and buttered carrots. Them carrots are divine! The husband likes the Filet de Boeuf with a Mediterranean Veg Medley, Balsamique and Black Olives Sauce – According to my husband it also tastes fab! I am not so big on beef or pork. For Desserts, go for the Chocolate Tarte and the Fruit Trifle! It had a touch of spiciness to it. The fruit trifle is even better – fresh seasonal fruits, crème – Ah bliss!Full marks to the desserts!!Overall expenditure: RS 2515 (Drinks – Starters – Mains – Desserts – Bottle of Water)Final word – Must go with your better/worst half!BTW,The owner Gregory Bazire, also is the head-chef of Om Made Café (Anjuna Beach) and Aquatica (Ashvem/Morjim). Gregory has worked in Michelin Star restaurants from California to Ireland as well as his own family restaurant in Normandy. I know this because one time I had gotten talking to him and then while writing me blog, I researched him up!
Authentic French food. Helpful staff and will guide you accordingly to your taste preference. Limited variety for vegetarians and abit overpriced. Mosquitos were a bit of a problem but they provided repellent and coils instantly.
Really nice evening in lovely surroundings. Not cheap mind so don't go for a quick meal or with kids. Ate there in 2014 although having just been back in March 16 it looked like it had shut and was under renovation.
