Bidrage med feedbackMy first time going here and I'm so excited! You really need to come early to get the train ticket, like seriously. I came at 12.00 so that I can book train ticket at 13.00 but they were sold out! So I can only enjoyed the museum. The next day I came again, early in the morning 7AM, they open at 8 AM and the queue has occurred. Fortunately, I got the ticket

The name of Willem I who was conceived by this station originated from the name of the fortress that was not far from the complex of this station, namely the Willem I Fort known also as the Pendhem Fort. Named Willem I because it was built to appreciate the services of the Dutch King who was in the time, namely King Willem I from the Netherlands. In order to mobilize the army and logistics KNIL smoothly, then the Dutchch-Indische Spoorweg Maatschappij (NIS) was tasked by the Colonial Government under the Governor General of the Sloet van de Beele baron to build a new railway path connecting Semarang with this fortress. It turns out, the development of this path is one package with the Samarang NIS railway line–Gundih–Solo Balapan–Lempuyangan. Then after the success of NIS built the Samarang-Tangoeng line completed on August 10, 1867, then at the beginning of 1869, besides extending its path to Gundih, NIS also built a new path to Bringin and further extended to Ambarawa. On May 21, 1873, Samrang Line–Vorstenlanden and Kedungjati–Ambarawa has been completed. The second period is the construction of the Secang railway line–Ambarawa. Because of the railway line through the mountains with a contour that is disclaimed and the topography that loves to be conquered, then so that the railway rate is controlled, made a dental rail system. This line connects the Dutch Indian military strategic area in Magelang City with Willem I Fort in Ambarawa. It aims to facilitate the mobility of KNIL soldiers in the region. On February 1, 1905, this segment path has been completed.
This the real hidden gem. Showcases Indonesian railway history, but the best part is you can ride the 100 years old train back and forth (only available Saturday, Sunday, and public holiday). Best to bring kids if you have one. They will love it!
