Secret places are exciting. Even more if you find them from the beaten path in a Gold Rush city... Binz Wines is located in the Mercantile city of Amador. But go through the store and enter the coolest tasting room in Amador County. Binz has a proverbial mood about it; how you entered a secret hideaway. This means that this is not one of those places with low illumination and curved voices. On the contrary. This is a living place full of entertainment and laughter. The original work of art on the walls is an additional joy. On Saturday there is live music that shows local talents. Owner Gordon and Virgie Binz are great hosts. The long-time winemaker Gordon makes small cocktail wines that are delicious. And the prices are so appropriate for the high quality wine he makes. We wanted some food with our wine. No problem! Virgie gave us the menu from the restaurant next door (Small Town Food and Wine). In no time was a cheese and charcuterie platter with a wealth of delicious bites delivered to our table. Also on the menu are salads, sandwiches and flatbread pizzas. Our Saturday afternoon was filled with good wine, food and music. But calm... don't tell anyone. It's our secret.
