Established in 1933 by the Mishra family, Big Mishra Pedha is best known for its popular sweet, the ‘Dharwad pedha’. Originally created by the Thakur family, who migrated from Uttar Pradesh in North India over a century ago, the pedhas are made by boiling buffalo milk to a thick consistency and coating it with powdered sugar. Next to Big Mishra’s outlet, there is a separate outlet for Thakur Pedhas. However, we were drawn to Big Mishra’s larger and more appealing store. We started by tasting the pedhas and were impressed by their dense and chewy texture, along with their sweet milky flavor that differed from the pedhas found elsewhere.
