This section of Olhos de Água is mainly populated by what I would refer to as British focussed bars with cheap cocktails and a deep fried or grilled food menu mainly centred around pizzas or burgers. However, the Symbiosis Pub and bar stands out as being a smart Portuguese bar with excellent cocktails and a food menu focussed on really good charcuterie boards. Internally It’s a smart L shaped bar with tasteful lighting and comfortable seating but has two outdoor seating areas, one next to the entrance where the closest table has a great swing seat, and then a larger square section nearer the road. We ate here and went for the premier charcuterie board at 27.5 euros which contained toasted bread with (cheese, ham, chorizo and tomato), brie cheese, chevre cheese, mixed Portuguese typical cheeses, smoked ham, chorizo, olives, olive oil and Herbs and in hindsight we should have gone for one of the smaller ones, such as the Gold at 22.5 Euros, as the board we had could have easily fed three people. On the drinks front the menu is centred on really well-balanced cocktails with the usual classic suspects being between 8 and 9.50 euros and the house designed specials at 12euros. This bar was also one of the very few I found that had something different to the mass beer brewers (Sagres and Guiness in their case) albeit just one bottled artisan beer (Alhambra Artesanal) which was 8.5 Euros, but that was for a 75cl bottle and served in an ice bucket. There are a couple of TV’s here, but they show Portuguese sport and are muted. So again it is not attracting your tourist football following holiday crowd, they will be up the road in the Oasis Sports bar. In conclusion this was a very nice laid back bar for some excellent cocktails and quality ham and cheese charcuterie and I am pleased we experienced it.
