Bidrage med feedbackTravelling to or through Ethiopia, do you need budget accommodation in a friendly and secure environment? If the answer is yes, then Baro Hotel in Piassa (right behind the legendary Taitu Hotel) in Addis Ababa is the right place for you (backpacker type of the environment). Dear meeting people from different countries,Baro Hotel is the place to stay for you.
All right, shut your expectations down. For the equivalent of $10 USD (230 ETB), you can get a room for two and a private wet bath. Sure, the water pressure is unconsistent and sometimes not present, and sometimes you have to argue with the grouchy guard to let you in after hours, but I have stayed here heap, I never had a problem with security or sanitation. The service staff are wonderful here, the bed linen and rooms are clean, without hints on bedbugs or fleas, beds are usually quite comfortable and the interior single rooms are sufficiently large for two. In addition, the double rooms (350 ETB) can fit a third person for an additional 100 ETB. The double rooms are often quite well dimensioned, as so I would not recommend the 400 Birr double because you don't get so much more in comfort. That means there's a single room I'm aware of is terrible. It is located outside and is somehow in a small corner, wedge-shaped. Avoid this room. It's not good. Mosquitoes everywhere. Nightmare material... Whatever. Recommended Baro for a cheap stay in Piassa, a neighborhood with good connections to virtually any suburb of Addis.
Great value for money, best choice for low budget travellers in the area. Free internet! They also offer taxi service to the airport at a reasonable price.
A good little hostel, we finished our two week trip here and had a good experience. The rooms are outdated, but clean enough. Expect to stay in a hostel and you won't let yourself in for a surprise. we had good Wi-Fi and hot showers. They provided us towels when we requested them. We noticed that there were many backpackers here, some visited for the first time, and others came back year after year.
A bit shabby rooms, but friendly staff and nice compound. Parking inside, good for drivers not for the sleeping, cause ethiopian drivers need to run the engine of their cars in the morning. Rates are ok.
