This was a lunch within a 2 day tour of the city organised by Alla tours. Very unassuming premises from the outside, but upstairs it is nicely decorated. A typical Russian lunch (for the tourist anyway) Borstch, Chicken Kiev, Honey cake, Water, Beer or Wine, Tea or Coffee. Good food and excellent service. Looking at the photos on the stairs they appear to have been visited by Ronald Reagan and Leonid Brezhnev among others. I guess if was good enough for them.... It would be nice there for an evening. Recommended

The ambiance is stunning in a grand room with elegant chandeliers. The food selection is great. Unfortunately, we experienced slow service during our visit.

My wife and I visited this restaurant as part of a cruise visit excursion and we were really surprised how stunning it was inside. The décor is wonderful, with chandeliers, an amazing painted ceiling, wooden bar, beautiful seats in the downstairs area, and based on all the photos on the stairwell it appears lots of famous people have eaten there. The meal we had was tasty borscht (soup), chicken Kiev, and a yummy dessert. I enjoyed a wonderful dark beer with the meal, served in a unique glass. Overall it was a lovely meal, and it is worth popping in for something to eat just to admire the wonderful interior.

We called at this restaurant as part of a days guided tour from a cruise ship. As this was our first time in Russia we really didn't know what to expect. The dining area is magnificent and tourists kept wondering in and taking pictures of the wonderful furnishings. The food was really good and the local beers very tasty. Good value for money.
