Bidrage med feedbackWell, Wilmington Foodies. What a surprise. Candle Nut Restaurant impresses... I had the beef with cabbage. Wow, my taste buds made an international tour in a session. This dish had so much taste. My partner had the noodle with shrimps and this dish was also full taste. To start the meal, they served us velvet sauces with thin fried noodles that had Indonesian spices on them. The four sauces ranged in warmth from mild to hot and was a great start to this international meal. I ordered the oxtail soup to go and how I write this review my mouth is water to taste this delicious soup. Service was good, but, was a little surprised that the hostess said that we wait 10 minutes for a table and that they put us a bar until a table opened. There were 18 tables empty when she sat at the bar. so foods introduce my confusion, why we wait a 10 minutes for a table. The bar offers menus in front of us and asked what we want to drink. We wanted to ask ourselves if we ever had Indonesian food, each of us poured a glass of water and laid silverware before us. We'll tell him we were waiting for a table. A woman came to us and talked to us about the Sambal sauces and went on to get these and the fried noodles to us, then asked if we have questions and if we were willing to order. We told her we waited for a table and she said oh. A gentlemen came to us and said you want a table that we will move you there. they finally put us on a table and pulled everything from the bar. They had a pianist who was a nice treat for our dinning experience. Music was just a little loud for the room and you had to scream to the person you were with. Oh, Wilmington-Foodies, please remember tapping the musician after your meal as you tap your waiting server. The staff was very friendly and more than courteous, and the owner was very interested in making the dinning experience great for all its customers. The prices were somewhat high, but by no means higher than most restaurants in downtown. Food, This is a must try restaurant to tickle your pallet and take the deserved travel to Indonesia. We will certainly return to the Candle Nut Restaurant.
We had a wonderful lunch at Candle Nut Restaurant. My wife is Dutch and Indonesian restaurants are on almost every street corner of the Netherlands, but are difficult to find in the USA, so we have decided to try. We received a warm, friendly greeting at the door through the restaurant manager and the waitress was very friendly and attentive, who took the time to light the candle at our table, a beautiful touch. Also the owners came out and greeted us cordially. You can clearly see that this restaurant is a work of love for them and their passion for what they do is obvious, the food was served hot from the kitchen. The Loempia (Eggrolls) were fresh and very tasty, the chicken salad with peanut sauce was also tasty and our most important courses of Bami Goering (fried rice w/vegetables) and mie goring (noodles with shrimps) were delicious and came in huge portions. We also ordered a hot lemon tea served in oversized cups. Very recommend this restaurant but come when you have a lot of time to enjoy your meal as the portions are lush. This is a real restaurant and no fast food place, a worthy addition to the Wilmington Restaurant scene!
Great authentic Indonesian cuisine! The owners and staff were fantastic hosts and the live piano was a great touch. The food tasted like dishes I had eaten over small Indonesian villages with some new spices I had not tried yet... Oh, and the fried Banana Dessert was a killer. Very recommended to make it in your Wilmington diet!
The first time tonight. It was great. The atmosphere, food, service was great. The pianist played beautiful. Some of the best food I had in a while. Had the salad wrap appetizer it was delicious, but the shrimp frit were the best. The best I've ever eaten. I highly recommend it will definitely return.
We are so glad to have a new choice for Asian food. We came after seeing the Star News review and we were not disappointed. We have traveled throughout Asia and this food is authentic. Make sure you sample the sambal sauces, especially if you like hot food. Each dish is tasty without the sauces, but the sambals add something special. If you are new to this cuisine, try the chicken with peanut sauce and the beef rendang, The beef is so tender that no knife is needed. My only suggestion is that they choose fresh local fish for their banana wrapped dish rather than tilapia. My family will be back for certain!
