Bidrage med feedbackWe had a very good experience at Urban Cellar! Our server recommended the Mulberry Mule which was excellent! Our meals were very good but the wife did feel there was a lot of skins in the mashed potatoes. The chocolate cake for dessert was delectable. Our server could have been a bit more attentive as it took her a really long time to finally get our bill out to us after we were finished eating but in the grand scheme of things that was pretty minor. This was a great place for the wife I to have a nice date night.
I returned to Urban Cellar last Friday night expecting a meal as terrific as the first time I was there... that was not the case. Service was prompt throughout the meal, however the waitress was excessively chatty...she was definitely a talker, not much of a listener. I started with what was called Seafood Chowder... had to be good, right? The chowder had 3 small pieces of DRY fish, that was the only 'Seafood ' I could identify. The broth was nothing special. I ordered Short Ribs which were heavenly my last visit. The waitress recommended the whipped potatoes as a side dish. I saw somewhere on the menu the mention of Yukon Gold potatoes. I asked her if the potatoes coming with my meal were Yukon Gold, to which she replied they 're whipped . I responded with whipped is how they 're prepared, not the type if potato. Seemed too complicated to pursue. The food arrived promptly, but my short rib was nothing close to the first time. Flavor was good but it was very dry. I have had had and neck cancer so swallowing food can be difficult especially when it 's dry. I asked the waitress for more sauce mentioned that the meat was dry. She responded with ' just chew it longer !!! She brought me a tiny cup with about a tablespoon of sauce which was useless. My meal was a total waste of . I 'll try somewhere else next time ?
Recommended by someone who lives in Des Moines and it was a good tip. Calamari was unique with great dipping sauce high recommend as an appetizer. Had the chicken jalapeno pasts, cavatelli, and salmon salad. Cannot go wrong with any of these. The margarita on cocktail menu was just ok. Would eat here again next time in town.
The atmosphere of this restaurant was great. They had an amazing wine selection to take away or drink there. A fireplace and can accommodate large groups. While the main course and appetizers were fabulous, dessert was nothing to brag about. Definitely skip. Service was good, she was new and serving a big group.
Urban Cellar has always been a favorite, but there are ups and downs. We arrived before 4 and had decent service for drinks and appetizers, but our server also had to cover the bar. This meant that when business picked up, we were ignored and had to flag down someone else to take meal orders. The crab cakes and thin, crispy onion rings were great; the margherita pizza was okay.I appreciate menu changes, but I’m not happy with the current scallop preparation. Brussels sprouts with tomato jam are quite tasty, but would have been better with pork, beef or chicken. It overpowered the delicate scallops. I’ve had perfectly prepared scallops here before; this batch was left to sear a bit too long.We had a larger group and were seated at a high top, where the chairs are incredibly uncomfortable. The foot rest is too low for many people, so your feet dangle. For me, the front of the chair seat cuts off circulation and my feet go numb. Next time, we’ll request a low table.
