Smokehouse - Wakefield

My husband and I went for lunch at this restaurant after being let down by another tapas spot. The food was amazing. We started with a generous portion of spicy olives, followed by six delicious tapas dishes. All of them were excellent! If you order five or more tapas, you get a free bottle of wine. The server was very helpful and efficient. We will definitely be coming back.

We enjoyed a delicious lunch of tapas at this restaurant. The portions were generous - we shared 5 dishes between the two of us and also received a complimentary bottle of house wine. The food was flavorful and very enjoyable.

As someone who regularly contributes to Trip Advisor, I always strive to provide honest and fair reviews. My group of 6 adults has visited the Smokehouse venue multiple times and have always had a great experience with positive reviews. Unfortunately, our recent visit was quite disappointing. Although we were seated quickly, we were unfortunately placed next to a noisy table of about 16 people who were loud and disruptive. This added to the overall poor experience. The main reason for our visit was to enjoy their delicious Fillet steaks, but we were informed that they had run out. The only option left was the Ribeye steak, which was mediocre and had a lot of gristle and fat. The service was also lacking, with two young waitresses who repeatedly had to come back to clarify orders and clear plates. The gap between starters and mains was also too long, leaving us waiting for ages. The prices were high, with £10.50 for a glass of white wine and £27 for a steak that was not worth it. Overall, our experience was disappointing and we will not be revisiting anytime soon. I hope this was just a one-off as our previous visits were excellent. When the staff shrug their shoulders and make excuses, it's clear that this is not their venue.

We booked a table because the reviews read well and the photos made the food look good, however, that’s where it ended. The staff were great, helpful and polite but the food was very disappointing and the restaurant was in need of a good clean (toilets in particular) and new plates as both ours were chipped. I ordered the meat combo of belly pork beef brisket, what came resembled a large slice of beef and a cut of Porchetta with tinned pit beans, my partner ordered Moroccan lamb which resembled a lamb casserole and was served moderately warm and the cherry bakewell cocktail certainly wasn’t made from scratch. We realised it wasn’t a proper American smoke house given the rapid arrival to the table of our food, unfortunately we certainly won’t be visiting again.

Came with big family party for my birthday. Extremely disappointed, starters were ok but all came at different times, had to ask a waitress where one was as everyone else had finished theirs and she just looked absolutely clueless as to why we were talking to her. New waiter didn’t even know what dishes he was bringing out and looked at us to answer for him, fair enough he’s new but come on, train your staff the basics. Didn’t get free bottle of wine even though we ordered tapas. One blonde girl walking around just playing with her hair and we didn’t understand the point in her being there, she didn’t do a thing all night, she just looked like she’d got lost. We didn’t get asked if we wanted a drink the whole night, had to keep asking where our mains were, an hour and 45 minutes later they arrived and my ‘jerk’ chicken burger was so bad, the bread sopping wet and falling to bits and the chicken was just plain chicken breast with none of the **** cut off it and slightly seasoned. the ‘manager’ said this was cause the chef had put ‘loads of sauce on it’ but there was no sauce at all, bone dry chicken, didn’t put any spicy sauce in like I asked and when I requested it they brought me a squeezey bottle to do it myself. Cajun chips came plain and when we told them they just sprinkled some Cajun seasoning just on the top, meat was all fatty and sparse on the bbq combo dish, boneless chicken wings were just chicken tenders!!?? The ribs had no meat on at all literally just bone, curry was cold and plain with no flavour to it at all. Everything bang average, staff unbelievably immature, very badly trained with no customer service skills or communication skills. The managers response when we told him all this was ‘I can only apologise’ so we had to request for money to be knocked off our bill, which they did- fair enough but we had to really push for this. Feels like they hire very young staff and don’t bother training them. Honestly a very, very poor experience and would never go back or recommend to anyone. Don’t ignore the bad reviews they’re all very accurate. The only member of staff I appreciated tonight was the girl with the dark hair who first took our order, she was the only one with any customer service skill or any sense.
