5stars! This place is magical and the only place in this town to buy ACTUAL health food. The owners are beautiful kind people and the food is SO delicious. Wait to you see the outside area in the back. Looks like what you see in the movie the secret garden. It is a gem, and pretty much the only place for vegan families to eat. The sweet potato fries are so good, and I can’t recommend this place enough!
Watson 's is.... The worst. Yes there are aisles of vitamins. Nothing you can 't order elsewhere. Expensive packaged 'health food ' items. A small frozen section. Nothing fresh is for sale, so not sure why it 's a 'health food store ', you 'll have to get your fruit and veggies somewhere else. Where? Not the deli! Deli: Ok they make tunafish sammies. Lots of sammies with sprouts and cream cheese. All the burgers are prepackaged frozen, not made fresh. Once I ordered 2 side salads and was served miniscule salads in tiny plastic dixie cups! Yes, SRSLY!! Might have been 1 spoonful in each cup. For the price, it was appalling. They have juice. Fresh squeezed juice sounds nice, right? All they sell is carrot juice in, get this, 16 oz size. Who the heck drinks 16 oz of carrot juice????? Hours? They suck, close at 4pm. The space is cute enough. What the restaurant needs is for someone to come in and upgrade the menu, offer more things made fresh, innovative tasty food, and hire staff that are friendly. And then stay open! They are closed Sat and Sun Would rather drive to fresno than eat another dry, uninspired 'veggie ' item here. Just bc it has sprouts doesn 't make it 'health food ' Alternative: try SolBol for acai bowls, avo toast and nitro coffee just a few blocks east. They serve fresh healthy food. Video Tour of Watson 's: [hidden link] While speaking on campus at the College of the Sequoias, as part of the vegan outreach program 10 Billion Lives we were referred by a student on campus to check out Watson 's as they are not many other vegan options within an hour of this school. (We are talking no Trader Joe 's, Whole Foods, or other health food options in this town, or in the surrounding area. Watson 's is located downtown and is a nice, homey little store, attached to its eatery that serves some sandwiches and hot food. My friend ordered a veggie burger sandwich. It was lackluster both the patty and the lame whole wheat bun it was on, but in a vegan desert town, I suppose it suffices. There certainly are vegan options there cheeses, ice cream, snack products, etc. It 's a spacious store, uncramped and stuffy, unlike other small town health food stores I have visited. However, I was not surprised or wowed by the options on hand. There are some local, organic produce items. The best part is the large garden backspace behind the store, where you can sit down and munch. Staff are friendly, and there is plenty of free parking nearby.
This cute health food store has a good selection of vegan groceries and quite a few vegan options in the attached deli. I picked up a few treats (vegan, slave-free chocolate and fig bars! as well as their vegan burger. The patty was alright and the bun left something to be desired, but the addition of sprouts and avocado made this a solid burger. I also recommend adding some ketchup and crushed red chili peppers to give it some zing. And don't forget to check out the peaceful garden in the back of the store!
