(b) a dollop of mash in the middle of a moat of mostly brown gravy is not a pie. A pie is a covered preparation. (c) There was maybe 2 oz of ground beef and a smattering of carrots and peas mixed in the gravy. (d) the side salad was ok but very small. And that was for $24. The fresh bread and butter was a nice touch though we had to ask our waitress for something to nibble on after we 'd ordered... then it was offerred. The outdoor patio was nice though in need to a lot of TLC. Ditto the building. Hunter 's Head has a ton of potential starting with better food and dumping the pretence of gastro pub. After a tip for our pleasant waitress, lunch for 2 came to $75. The same money buys the incredible gourmet, all-you-can-eat buffet brunch at Tuscarora Mill in nearby Leesburg. We don 't feel much ureg to go back.
This was our first time to Hunter's Head Tavern. My wife and I have driven past it many times and always remarked we should try it. Well, we finally did and what a disappointment. The food was not bad however the service was the worst. I had made reservations for Brunch to celebrate our Anniversary. When we first walked in there is no designated place to wait to be seated, so we stood near the door labeled entrance. We stood there for almost 5 mins with many servers walking by but no one asked us why we were even there. Two couples came in shortly after and were immediately asked to be seated. I had to say something in order for the server to even acknowledge us. After being seated we waited to order, seems they do not serve in the order of sitting down. When we finally were asked to order, we asked for coffee to drink with cream and sugar. Brought the cream, but no sugar or spoons. Had to ask of the sugar and only brought one of us a spoon. Also asked for ketchup for the potatoes, never got that either. Finally, when I made the reservation I noted it was our anniversary, but no acknowledgement at all. If a restaurant does not celebrate special events, then don't ask when making the reservation. After I got home I decided to read some of the negative comments, and wished I had read them before making the reservation as I would have had brunch somewhere else. They all are accurate and reflect our experience as well. The food was not bad however because of the poor service I would not recommend Hunter's Head Tavern.
Everything was fine. The waiting space for our table to be ready was small and uncomfortable. The dining room was cozy but the windowsill is a deposit of table condiments for the restaurant. The food was excellent, the presentation not so much.
Hunter’s Head is the best game in town for food, drink and overall local feel. Can’t beat it.
When you want to treat yourself and loved ones to a great eating experience, go to Hunter's Head Tavern! The chef and our waitress were particularly considerate for our special needs adult son.
