Aka Teppan - Toronto

I loved the variety of noodle and rice dishes served on sizzling platters that arrive at your table piping hot. Watching the meat and carbs sizzle creates anticipation and makes your mouth water. During my visit, we tried the lunch specials which included a starter, a main, and a choice of soup or drink. We chose the clam soup and the beef udon with curry, as well as the Tom yum chicken over rice. Both dishes were excellent, with the udon surprisingly 'al dente' despite being cooked on the sizzling plate. The rice was warm and satisfying, and both sauces were unique and delicious. The meats were tender and juicy from cooking on the sizzling plate. I will definitely return to Aka Teppan without hesitation. The food was fantastic, and the overall dining experience was refreshing.

The modern decor and attractive servers definitely made a good impression here. The presentation of all the dishes was great, but some were a bit lacking in flavor. My favorite dish was the teppan beef udon, with an extra raw egg and truffle oil.

I had a wonderful dining experience at this restaurant. I was excited to try the red miso nabe and it did not disappoint - it was delicious! My cousin really enjoyed the beef dish and I loved the chicken cutlets. The sake bomb was the perfect complement to our meal.

To sum it up, Aka Teppan is a take on the popular Pepper Lunch franchise in Hong Kong where the food is served on a sizzling hot plate. The experience of mixing all the ingredients on a hot plate in front of you is very enjoyable as the food stays piping hot for a while and the aroma is heavenly.<br/ <br/ The interior of the downtown location is much more fancier and spacious compared to the Markham location. Also unlike the other location, the servers here were very polite, but would not seem to follow up with anything unless we grabbed their attention.

The best newly discovered restaurant of 2015 goes to Aka Teppan! Amazing experience for my first time. We ordered the okonomiyaki fries as a starter and we each got a main. I ordered their most popular beef with rice which was recommended by our server. Each dish comes on a sizzling hot plate where the meat is cooked in front of your eyes. I'm not sure what sauce they use but it was delicious. Portions are very generous considering how reasonable priced each dish is. This is a must try for all those who have never been as it's a very unique experience.
