Traveling through and this was a great place. Great food and service. Glad we stopped.
Called ahead for a reservation. The guy sounded like a zombie on the phone. Showed up on time. Stood at the door for 3-4 minutes before the same grumpy dude sat us at a table and said it's just him and the owner and that it could be a while for us to get served. 15 minutes later and no bread, no water, no service...so we walked out. Absolute joke.Friends of course went the next night. Exact same situation. They didn't walk out and they were there for almost 2 hours. Kid-friendliness: Unless you hate your kids, avoid this place like the plague.
While the chef puts a lot of effort into the dishes and talking to the patrons, it is at the sacrifice of the quality of the food and causes the meal to be painfully long. Some of the sauces are overpowering, and rather than enhancing the main ingredient in the dish, it hid its flavor, in the case of the filet we had this was ok because it was charred on the surface. In addition, I'm personally not a fan of raw onions, and they were used through a number of dishes. So be sure to ask if they are in the dish you are ordering if you don't like raw onions as well. The risotto we had was undercooked as well. While they did apologize about everything and give us a free dessert, it felt like this was more of the norm than an exception. I believe at one time this was a great establishment, but now has faded into the faux elegance of an 80's supper club. I feel that there is still a lot of potential here it will take some work for it to regain its glory.
I flew to St Louis for a Retreat from Jax, Florida, then rented a car to meet up with one of my most incredible four brothers, so we could catch up, and enjoy the perfect dining experience. And we found it, from the moment we entered. Our large family owned and worked a restaurant for 14 years, and our evening here...we were royalty, in a beautiful setting, with the Owner/Chef and our remarkable Hostess showing how it's done. This was a special occasion for us- so many things to give and share, we were nuts, and we lingered, okay, dessert, of course! The meal, only fresh, only the best, prepared exquisitely. We were kings for the evening, and there's just not enough room here to elaborate. Except to say- it's one of those events you never forget, and love to share with folks. We're blessed and grateful to have experienced it!
