This is a restaurant that covid has not survived too well: eating is not a patch on pre-blocking and the atmosphere has taken a nasen dive. I get that fresh fish are expensive, but it is best to serve fresh, quality products. According to the waiter “there were no fresh whole fish on the market”. the only whole fish was offered a (frozen) flounder (of which super cheap,) which had been made so dry it was painful to swallow. sia has always been eaten, which is ideal, but now it is eating, being bombarded by someone who commands a loud speaker screaming and escape asap. Sydney has no lack of excellent Thai restaurants. it was after my time to live there that I realized how poor the Thai food is in the usa (at least where I lived). I have visited all Sydney institutions, including those who have since closed (actors, I miss them sailor’s thai (especially the canteen!
This place is tiny and not made for a long evening dinner yet convenient enough to sit and talk to friends, but eating is delicious. we have it early enough to get a table without waiting menu is huge and I am impressed how small the kitchen looks. eating came in minutes, very fast! the Papaya salad is very refreshing and tasteful. the basilikum crispy boar is of great part, spicy and salty, perfect with rice chicken penang curry is creamy and rich, and the meeres fruit tom yum is full of umami and has a good tang. Heard a lot about this place and it’s always super packed so had pretty high expectations. Came here for lunch and there’s no wait required on a Saturday. for pad thai and a simple fried rice is at the higher range for what I would pay for these dishes and unfortunately they were just okay, not outstanding or worth the price. Prefer to just go to a chinatown foodcourt tbh or chat thai. The pad thai wasn’t really balanced in flavour and quite stingy on the toppings, fried rice was dry and lacked that signature ‘wok-flavour.’ service was also non-existent...
