Overall, eating was not what we expected from a restaurant that should be rated so high. the disappointment is the least of the adjective to describe our experience in sel. at $200 per person (the wein included), this was a waste of good money. about every dish on the cook four-course menu lacked taste, and the presentation of each dish was overwhelming. the only dish that thrilled our taste buds was the little cup sorbet to clean the palate. everything else was unstoppable. the first cure, which insolely utter, was served lukewarm and in a bowl so heavier sawn sauce, one could hardly make the oysters. the second cursor, the date boot scallops (or should I say scallop as it was a single scallop cut in very thin slices) was served in a very salty brown liquid stock. the third court was the rindertournedo, who was so hard that I simply cut around the edges and ate what I could. for the main course I had the so-called Mediterranean sea red wild striped bass, which was completely tasteless! in the did I asked if the fish was some kind of sea bass. for me it tasted more like agricultural trout. I complained to our server, who was really pretty nice. she insisted to replace my fish dish for something else, as it was obvious that I was not satisfied. that something else was a bowl of lukewarm, boiled filled pasta clog, they guessed it, heavier cream sauce served as the oyster dish earlier. to round off everything, we were served for dessert a storage-bought sugar cookie, which is covered with cream and frozen strawberries. unnecessary to say that we don't come back to the same. it's not just worth the money, it's a waste of time.
Two of us did the chef's tasting menu and one of our party just chose an entree. Although it was not on the menu, our waiter offered and the chef created a wonderful salad for her to enjoy while the other two were doing the first few courses. We had an excellent experience.
Amazing experience, beautiful ambience.. every bit from beginning to end was delectable! Highly recommend
Sel was a really wonderful treat. I had the best cocktail I have had in Phoenix. It was a martini meets pina colada with fresh lime zest weaved into a light foam on top of a rum drink. Details like that were found in all of the food courses as well. The server was very knowledgeable and accommodating to a food preference despite a special Restaurant week menu. The atmosphere on the patio was charming- similar to The House Brasserie while the food was on par with Cafe Monarch.
