Vanilla Bake Shop - Santa Monica

The small bake shop is cute. I especially love the way their “cupcake babies”, and “icebox dessert shots” look. Very pretty, very cute. We’ve only tried the Mother’s Birthday Cake, Southern Red Velvet, Black and White, Chocolate Vanilla Bean, Chocolate Raspberry and Pumpkin. The cupcakes are $3.25, the average price of cupcakes. The ones we tried were in the cupcake babies version. You have to buy them in threes (doesn’t have to be 3 of the same). 3 for $5. My favorite one was the Raspberry Chocolate. You don’t feel so guilty when you have the cupcake babies. :oD The only thing I have to say negative about this place was that they say they have organic milk on the menu and I ordered a cup of milk for my daughters, believing it was organic, then later on, finding out they ran out of organic, but the server didn’t tell me. I didn’t appreciate that. All in all, this place is definitely worth trying. Next time, I’m trying the icebox dessert shots.

I don’t care what you say about Sprinkles Cupcakes, it doesn’t hold a candle to Vanilla Bake Shop. My personal favorite: The chocolate cupcake with mocha frosting. Avoid the “birthday cupcake,” which is a boring vanilla cake with vanilla frosting. The blackberry cupcake, with puplish berry-flavored frosting, is to die for. The best part: They will sell you three mini cupcakes for only about five bucks, which means you can try three flavors if you’re sharing with a friend, rather than having to scarf down an entire cupcake for the same price.

We had such a great experience with Vanilla Bake Shop. My in-laws wanted a cake that was similar to their wedding cake for their 50th anniversary. Mia was very helpful on the phone, helping us figure out the best way to get this cake made, given that our photos were very grainy. We were able to find a picture online of a cake we wanted the bakery to make, and they did a beautiful job reproducing it! We picked up the cake today, and Mia packaged it very nicely for us. We got to enjoy the cake this evening, and everyone couldn’t stop talking about how delicious it was. Thanks for helping make the occasion so special!

I really like the cupcakes here. The frosting isn't too sweet and the cake part is very soft. I actually wish the frosting was a little sweeter and thicker. I prefer the vanilla cupcakes over the chocolate cupcakes. The price isn't outrageous like some of the other places either so it's not a bar choice.

The girl at the counter was super friendly and they have gluten-free and vegan options. I got vegan cupcakes and they were pricey but totally exceptional. It's not easy to find vegan cupcakes around here so it was a pleasant surprise to run into this cute little bakery!
