Bidrage med feedbackI finally found what I can eat here! I feel guilty getting food at the food court, not due to the cost but to its deliciousness. The husb always gets the three taquitos plate. Looks delicious but gotta watch what I eat, some days during the week. We went on a Monday. I went to the grill and got the chicken burger with grilled vegetables. It was a good filling delicious lunch option. Happy to say I found a new fav when we come to The Huntington!
The 1919 Café is an open food court with a central cashier station. When we had lunch, there were plenty of inside and outside tables. There were many food styles to choose from: a salad bar, pizza, entrees, sushi (made onsite) and prepared takeaway. As one would expect, the prices aren't cheap BUT they're not as expensive as I expected. We chose to go with prepared takeaway, I'm glad we did. Trying to eat healthy in a captive environment it very difficult, but it worked here. I ventured with the Grilled Chicken Caesar Wrap. The caloric issue here is the Caesar dressing: deadly. But it was very light in this wrap, the rest of the ingredients were fairly healthy, see my pic of packaging label. As you can see from my wrap pic, there was a fair amount of chicken breast, lettuce and tomatoes. I ate around any excessive tortilla. The flavor was okay, the grilled chicken had a very mild chicken flavor. The Protein Box, see pic its label, was straightforward: chicken breast, cheese, almonds and a hardboiled egg. The grilled chicken breast was overcooked and the flavor was very mild. Everything else was as expected. This takeaway section was super easy, quick, and given the captive environment fairly priced.
I love that this cafe has so many different food options! Every time I visit, I want everything they have to offer! The food is fresh and well-made and the service is always friendly. I enjoyed my taco and aguachilles bowl. The Whiskey Bramble drink was so good that I took a photo of the menu and made a similar drink at home . Sitting outside is always nice but sometimes it gets too hot in the summers. The indoor seating is great as well.
A bit overpriced, a bit undercooked. My sister said the sushi here was good but I had the hotdog and it was severely undercooked. Never again. I may come back and try the sushi but that is yet to be seen. I did like the different stations which different foods being offered and the free iced water. My brothers turkey burger was $21 and he said it wasn't worth it though.
1919 Cafe is cafeteria style and menu options can be scanned via QR code outside the building or can be seen on the website, but you'll need to sign up for the newsletter first a day prior to your trip to be able to view it. We ate lunch around 2:00 PM, and there was a bit of seating left but not too much. At 2:30 PM, the lunch rush had almost completely died down. From Cactus, we got the Three Amigos tacos plate with carnitas, chicken, and carne asada. All three tacos were dressed with pickled red onion and mild salsa. The tacos were a bit dry. The last taco I ate even had a piece of hair in it (it was not mine or my partner's ; ; , and I was fairly grossed out by it. We also got vegan ceviche from Cactus as well, and it was more flavorful. A few more tostada shells could have been given to balance everything out, especially as there was more ceviche than tostada. There is a self serve sauce and utensils station that includes tapatio, so adding it in makes a wonderful difference to the tacos and ceviche! Next to Cactus is a pizza grill that serves pepperoni pizza, margherita pizza, and Mexican street corn pizza. The Mexican street corn pizza was pretty dense and dry (especially as it was sitting out for a while , but it was still good nonetheless. There is a self serve water station that's complimentary, although there is a sign stating that you can not fill personal water containers up. Overall the entire cafeteria is okay, and for three plates, it totaled to $45. Other dishes from places like The Market in the cafeteria may be worth more due to portions, flavor, and price, but places like Cactus and the pizza oven area were alright. Perhaps the food tasted better simply due to walking around for half a day, but everything was not bad, just simply could be better (especially for the price !
