La Laiterie

For those who like cheese and fondue, this is an excellent choice. the starter, part of the menu, as well as dessert, superb as well.

We're staying at the superb Altapura this week, with half board that covers La Laiterie as well as the hotel buffet.This is a great fondue restaurant with a quirky twist. The room - accessed through the main Altapura lounge - is small and quite brightly lit, to create the feel of a dairy, along with cow-themed pictures and ceiling. I loved it; my husband would've preferred more elbow room and less light. The kitchen is part of the room, so the chef prepares everything in front of you.You get the menu on an iPad, and choose from one of four fondues with a few extras. The Comte + mushrooms was gorgeous and creamy and lacked the acidity that puts me off traditional fondues.The set starters (great salad, pate, potato and onion soup) and puddings (home made ice cream, myrtilles, chocolate, nuts) arrive on a rustic plank and you can choose and combine them as you wish - a nice touch.There's good local wine on the list, and the service is prompt and friendly.

As we were staying in the Altapura, it made sense to try this restaurant. The chef cooks in front of you and we tried all five different cheese fondues. They were so good that my son who refused to eat a cheese fondue beforehand now thinks that they are delicious. It is a very clever idea to make the venue look like a milking parlour, but the lighting and decor for an evening venue is very bright and brash. There is nothing on the menu if people don't want fondue, and despite the successful evening there, the family decided not to return later in the week. Great to try, and wonderful food, and I would return again.

In the center of the luxury Altapura hotel, a unique experience to taste a fondue like you never had before. Pricey but worth every penny, with a great service, great appetizers and great desserts (set menu, you only choose which type of cheese fondue you want).
