Le Bistro du Mata - Saint-Jean-de-Luz

One of the best places I've ever been. Mostly because of the location, but also the very friendly staff makes a lot. I enjoyed several evenings there and I would return again, even if it is 2000 km far from my house

This place has the perfect location to see the sun, go down, but the staff, while friendly are a little too interested in themselves, a laugh as serving customers, our first visit ended with us on foot, as wait 20 minutes to be...serve we hike elsewhere, the views were enormous and the food was not so special, but OK

Come here for the view, high above the Bay of Biscay. Food was pretty good, not good, but well maybe better than the, French frits excellent, fry chicken good, salads good, muscles better than that. Service excellent. You have a walk-in bar when you relax a drink and a very nice area over the water.

Was introduced to this little gem by a friend, who was camping at the site behind it, situated on the beach in a little cove to the north of St Jean De Luz. There are two elements to the restaurant with bar area, (serving cocktails,...drinks and snacks) overlooking the beach and the restaurant itself at the front of which is a rotisserie roasting cochon de lait when we went! The waiters are incredibly friendly and helpful, one previously working at L'Escargots in London before leaving for USA!! We had oysters as a starter (very good and the dipping sauce was yummy) with cochon, moules and chipirons to follow......the pig was excellent, the moules very good (with home made chips) and the chipirons were good although the latter was hardly a main course helping for a main course price! The Cote du Boeuf for one that was delivered to the table next to us was HUGE and the steak tartare looked brilliant too.....certainly know what I am having when we go there next week and looking forward to it!!!!
