With perfectly cooked homemade patties, hand cut fries, crisp fresh toppings delicious gravy and even "Dog Burgers" when you bring your furry friend. My dog and Bond I keep coming back. Well worth the drive from downtown!While this may be a "Fast Food" type of restaurant, the quality rivals any restaurant in town! Once you taste their food, you will find the price is well set.
Seems to me that we are a bit of a minority in thinking that this is just 'good' food. The burgers and fries are good, no question but I am not entirely sure that it lives up to the hype though.It's a place we go and enjoy, no question and it is a unique place now-a-days so we will return. The people there are friendly on the most part and obviously do what they enjoy!
This place makes great, big, juicy hamburgers in various combinations with cheese, mushrooms, bacon, etc. They have one very hot version, with jalapenos. They also have good fish and chips and fried prawns. The fries are home style. They also have great milk shakes in a lot of flavours. Prices may seem high compared to places like McDonalds, but the portions are larger so you get your money's worth. This is a stand with no indoor seating. You can take out, or sit at outdoor picnic tables. This means that pets are no problem. The shack is unheated so their season is variable-they stay open into the fall so long as it doesn't get too cold. I live within walking distance so have been here quite a few times over the years. A friend who just tried it (without me) said it was the best hamburger he had ever had.
Love the friendly owners and their enthusiasm to serve great, classic meals! I advise a strawberry milkshake.
HART BURGER BARIt was chilly, with a breeze rolling in from the north. The girlfriend and I had previously decided to check out the Hart Burger Bar. Correction--I asked, and she complied bewilderingly. No haute cuisine? No molecular gastronome? Who was this man she was with? She initially thought it was doublespeak; nope, it’s called Hart Burger Bar. It’s a bar, and it’s located in the Hart. Appropriate. It's located north, off the highway past the last set of lights before, I don’t know, Alaska. No doubt, you have to want to come here, and we did. There were rumors they had the best burgers. Previously, I knew of them further in town, under the A&A banner. The modern burger bar reminds me of a time of A&W restaurants staffed by carhops, old style Dairy Queen outlets, and drive-in theaters. I know the latter still exists in town, but I remember when this town had two. I’m old. I’m not claiming the Burger Bar is a relic, more like an institution we need to cling onto. The 70’s can have pet rocks, water beds, and 8-track players, but I’m keeping fondue, bean-bag chairs, and Watergate salad (look it up—the most amazing thing on planet Earth). So despite avoiding drive-in theaters, I appreciate the concept of an outdoor bar. The best kind of ice cream is delivered through a narrow window. The Hart Burger Bar’s menu is simplistic through effective. Outside of a basic burger is the firehouse, harkening back to fevered nightmares from years ago—the only meal I could never finish. I was sweating, out of breath—a meal that burned twice, described by my best friend as “the ring of fire”.Instead, as my girlfriend enjoyed the SBD (Single But Delicious), I tackled the A&A, which is basically double everything. I wasn’t aware such a burger was so immense, actually crossing time zones. Each side of this sandwich was slightly bent to follow the curvature of the Earth. I kid, of course, but it was a solid meal to have at 11:30. I wasn’t aware of its size beforehand, so of course I had to order a $6 salted caramel milkshake and a serving of fries. How much was that milkshake, you ask?VINCENT: Did you just order a five-dollar shake? MIA: Sure did. VINCENT: A shake? Milk and ice cream? MIA: Uh-huh. VINCENT: It costs five dollars? MIA: Yep. VINCENT: You don't put bourbon in it or anything? MIA: Nope. VINCENT: Just checking.The fries were not pulled from a frozen bag. The burgers were homemade. The ingredients were fresh. It was…wait for it…the best burger I’ve had in years. Despite my sandwich having a calorie count larger that Zimbabwe’s gross domestic product, it didn’t fall apart. I won’t claim the meal was cheap. For $13, you get a burger and maybe napkin. Fries were extra. And as for that shake…VINCENT: ****! That's a pretty XXXXXX good milk shake. MIA: Told ya. VINCENT: I don't know if it's worth five dollars, but it's pretty XXXXX good.And despite the price, it was also a massive amount of food. Other than a bowl of soup and popcorn during a movie later that night, I didn’t eat anything else. That one burger provided the needed energy for operate efficiently throughout the day. I was burning coal…and as such, steam was natural byproduct. I’m using steam as a metaphor for expelling flatus if you haven’t caught on.Ultimately, the burger was fantastic, the fries were good, and even the milkshake was memorable. There was not a single missed step. So what I had to eat them on a picnic table in a 4-degree wind chill. What’s shocking is that despite that, and despite being on the clear opposite of town, I actually want to go back. Anytime I want a good burger, this is the only place I will think of. If it expanded and opened another bar closer to my half of town, it would be weekly.
