I know all about Chinese buns and northern bakery grew up eating these. It is hard to find a place that does it right and this place does it right. If you are looking for ambience and certain experience this place doesn't have that. The service is beyond basic and the order process is not all that smooth clear. For me it is about food. Authentic. Delicious. Fresh and Good Remind me of Childhood Food. And this place has this so five stars it is for me!
We ordered the dumplings and the buns and they were amazing. The Pan fried dumplings were so good and hot. The steam buns were amazing as well the meat was seasoned well and so juicy. Just make sure you order at least 1 hour in advance and when you get there you will get fresh food.
Super tasty homemade buns and dumplings. also amazing value for money. There is a WeChat group you can place orders with, or else order at the restaurant. Cash only at the restaurant or else she does take Venmo or Paypal if you ask.
It breaks my heart that this place isn't more heavily reviewed/more popular. I'm so glad I found this gem.The food is absolutely spectacular. The buns and dumplings are handmade by the three or so Chinese aunties that run the place. It's so authentic, it'll be difficult to order because they don't really speak English so you'll have to point to the menu if you can't speak Mandarin. They're actually really popular on a Chinese food ordering site/blog so they know what's up.Recommendations: definitely their beef rolls, sheng Jian bao, and chive boxes! Oh! A fair warning, their XLB is more bready than regular XLB. It's more of a mini bun than it is a dumpling. Still tastes hella bomb! So I'd still recommend that. Also, they sell bags of frozen dumplings and wonton .50 cents each.Staff: they're super kind. They were patient enough to listen to my horrible Mandarin Chinese (I speak cantonese) and if I wasn't familiar with a menu item, they took it out of the fridge or showed me a picture of it. 100% recommend!
The newly opened Lily's Bakery is actually not a bakery but a Northern Chinese dumpling kitchen. They don't offer confectionery items, but sell dumplings, Baos, buns, bings, and Chinese pancakes. They don't have a permanent menu and the one they have has a very poor translation. Minus star. It would help if they just printed a Chinese version and would be easier at least for the Chinese language readers. I took my guesses in Chinese and ordered in Mandarin but the person taking the order would rather use the item numbers. No place to eat and orders must be placed in advance. We ordered the following: Chive Box (5) a thin skinned Chinese empanada with chive, egg and bean curd stuffing, Very good Thousand layer beef pancake Best item tender beef thin layered skin Pan fried Bao is the version of Sen Jian bao but thin skin and lighter filling. A little on the greasy side. Frozen fish dumplings $28 hand made fish filling dumplings Great taste would order again. Next time I'll try the XLB and the sesame bing. Cash only, plenty of parking in the large shopping center. Lily's Bakery is located on the north east corner of the center. They need to work on menu and translation.
